Summary: Soil organic carbon (SOC) is crucial for achieving global climate targets by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting ecosystem services. However, accurate SOC accounting and monitoring face technical challenges, and some countries have included specific SOC measures in their commitments to the Paris Agreement.

Summary: With ASEAN's rapid population and economic growth, its medium-term climate ambition becomes crucial to global mitigation efforts. Although all ASEAN Member States have communicated their ambitions through NDCs, the region still falls short of a 1.5 or 2-degree scenario. Assessing and comparing the NDCs is complex due to varying types of targets and actions. Through an assessment framework, AMS' strategies for raising mitigation ambition are examined, with the need for stronger economy-wide targets identified. Different groups with varying stages of progress in climate ambition among AMS are clarified, along with specific recommendations for each group.

Summary: This study evaluates the inclusion of Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) and air pollutant mitigation in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) submitted between 2015 and 2022. The study finds that there has been a significant increase in attention to SLCPs and air pollution in post-2020 NDCs, with more countries including explicit reduction targets for methane, black carbon, and hydrofluorocarbons. There has also been a rise in the number of specific mitigation measures included in NDCs, indicating a greater focus on reducing SLCPs and co-emitted air pollutants. These findings highlight the importance of integrating SLCP and air pollution mitigation into climate change policies.

Summary: Individualism is a significant predictor for the mitigation levels of NDCs, but is not correlated with mitigation ambitions. The study emphasizes the importance of considering cultural context and nuances, and advocates for developing tailored climate communication strategies to enhance NDCs.

Summary: This article analyzes the recognition of Indigenous Peoples' rights in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Although the number of NDCs related to Indigenous Peoples is increasing, there are doubts regarding their sincerity and commitment to implementation. Therefore, states need to make more significant efforts to ensure that NDCs take a rights-based approach and contribute to strengthening Indigenous Peoples' role and say in climate governance.

Summary: This study evaluates the effects of nationally determined contributions (NDCs) on global temperature slowdown and attributes the slowdown to different regions. The research finds that the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and Asian countries are the top contributors to global warming mitigation, and carbon dioxide reduction is the decisive factor. The study suggests considering additional greenhouse gases and short-lived pollutants in climate change mitigation planning.

Summary: The recent 6th Assessment Report by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change criticizes the world for not adequately addressing the impacts of climate change. Effective Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) systems are crucial in ensuring that Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) achieve their objectives, but research on NDCs is predominantly conducted by institutions and researchers from the global North, neglecting the voices and perspectives of the global South. There is also a lack of research on M&E of NDCs measures globally.

Summary: The use of equity principles in reviewing NDCs is essential for more ambitious climate actions, but disagreements persist. By treating emission reduction as an economic behavior and exploring economic trade-offs, it is found that more ambitious NDCs are urgently needed to address climate change challenges.

Summary: This study examined NDCs from 185 countries and found that countries not mentioning health were mainly clustered in high-income countries, while greater health engagement was seen in low-income and middle-income countries. Factors such as low GDP per capita and being a small island developing state were associated with higher levels of health engagement. The focus on health in NDCs follows broader patterns of global inequalities.

Summary: The adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015 marked India's commitment to reduce its GDP emission intensity by 33-35% by 2030. The transport sector, a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, needs to be evaluated in relation to the NDC. By using FAHP, definitive solutions can be provided to climate change policymakers and logistics managers.

Summary: Fossil fuels account for the majority of global greenhouse gas emissions, but the Paris Agreement does not address them. However, if the Paris Agreement succeeds, fossil fuel-producing countries have incentives to plan for decreased demand. A study comparing the policies and data of fossil fuel-producing countries suggests that wealthy producers have limited plans for declining supply, focusing more on production-related emissions, while import-dependent countries are more receptive to production decline. These findings highlight the importance of considering both production and consumption in global climate governance.

Summary: This paper proposes a NbS analysis framework and examines the characteristics of NbS policies and actions of 190 Parties. The results show that NbS is not yet the mainstream measure worldwide to combat climate change, with developing countries paying more attention to NbS than developed countries. Furthermore, there is room for improvement in NbS targets, pathways, policies, and synergies. Rating: 8/10

Summary: This study analyzes the greenhouse gas emissions and macroeconomic impacts of the new NDCs submitted by 156 countries. The results show that while these new NDCs contribute to additional reductions in global emissions by 2030, achieving the climate goals of the Paris Agreement still requires a significant increase in emission reductions.

Summary: Enhancing the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) is crucial for achieving the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, with international support playing a key role in helping developing countries aim for higher climate ambition. This study focused on the impact of factors such as socio-economic development, air pollution exposure, and democratic governance on the likelihood of countries applying for assistance to enhance their NDCs, with the assistance designed to build capacities for future climate policies implementation.

Summary: The goals of the Paris Agreement can only be reached if all parties commit to actions supporting their Nationally Determined Contributions. Developing countries play a crucial role, particularly in the AFOLU sector. However, they face constraints in tracking and communicating progress towards their climate policy targets and NDCs.

Summary: Despite the increasing number of policies in Rwanda and Kenya, there are still financial and technical barriers to implementing electric mobility solutions, such as high upfront investment costs and perceived lack of competitiveness with fossil fuel vehicles. Transport operators and their associations are less recognized as major players in the transition, highlighting the need for policymakers and stakeholders to address these issues together.
