Summary: Aberrant protein N-glycosylation plays an important role in the progression of oral cancer and can be used as a biomarker for early-stage cancer. A MALDI-MS-based N-glycomic analysis with multivariate data analysis approach was used to identify differential N-glycome profiles in patients with oral cancer. The study found that 8 glycan structures were significantly increased in all oral cancer-derived microvesicles, and the increases were more pronounced in early-stage oral cancer compared to advanced-stage. N-glycomic profiling from serum also showed significant changes in 11 glycan structures.

Summary: This study combined MALDI-TOF MS with EM technology to directly analyze exosomal proteins in human plasma and serum. The results showed that EM had higher sensitivity in the high-mass range and characteristic exosomal proteins were identified. Furthermore, when using EM as a detector, there was a good linear relationship between peak intensity and concentration.

Summary: The study identified 93 gastric Helicobacter isolates of 10 different species using MALDI-TOF MS to establish a more elaborate reference database. The in-house database correctly identified all isolates and resulted in 82% correct species identification based on the top two matches. A dendrogram was also constructed to show phylogenetic relationships among the species.
