Summary: There is currently insufficient evidence to determine whether stenting is more effective than angioplasty alone for stenosis of the subclavian artery.

Summary: This study found that higher levels of sCD40L predict an increased risk of acute coronary events and coronary restenosis among patients with ACS or CCS undergoing PCI, but not of mortality.

Summary: This study assessed the zinc nutritional status in patients with coronary artery disease using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. The results showed no association between zinc and the severity of coronary artery disease, and there were no significant differences in zinc levels between patients with acute coronary syndrome and stable coronary artery disease. However, a significant negative correlation was observed between zinc content and serum triglyceride concentration, and patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus had lower hair zinc content.

Summary: The international multicentre randomised trial ACST-2 compared the effects of CAS and CEA for asymptomatic patients with severe stenosis, showing that the long-term effects of these two procedures on fatal or disabling stroke are comparable.

Summary: The study evaluates the outcomes of left main percutaneous coronary interventions in patients who are not suitable for coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The results show that these patients have higher complexity of disease and lower ejection fraction, but the procedure is successful with low complication rates. However, long-term all-cause mortality rate is slightly higher in these patients.

Summary: Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a leading cause of mortality globally, with the burden disproportionately affecting low and middle income countries. There are significant variations in CAD prevalence and mortality rates among different regions and countries, with developed countries experiencing a decline in CAD incidence over the years. On the other hand, developing countries are facing an increasing incidence of CAD due to globalization of the Western diet and sedentary lifestyles.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and impact of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) in patients with multivessel coronary artery disease (MVD) and acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The results showed that MetS was frequently observed in these patients, with young females more likely to have MetS. However, after primary PCI, MetS was not found to be an independent predictor for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in these patients.

Summary: Patients with myocardial infarction have poorer short- and long-term outcomes compared to stable coronary artery disease patients after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Higher risk of death continues also in stabilized first-year myocardial infarct survivors. Efficient secondary prevention and follow-up are important in the post-myocardial infarct population after CABG.

Summary: Significant advances have been made in the field of carotid artery stenting, with new trial data, professional statements, new techniques, and better candidate selection methods. The outdated coverage decision regarding CAS should be updated to approve CAS in selected symptomatic and asymptomatic patients for stroke prevention. Optimized CAS strategies and new technologies are leading to improved outcomes in CAS procedures.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate whether the imaging changes on high-resolution vessel wall imaging (HR-VWI) before and after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting (PTAS) contribute to predicting the clinical outcome. The preliminary results showed that the presence of reduced contrast enhancement immediately after PTAS may indicate less recurrent stroke events within 1 year.

Summary: Spontaneous coronary artery rupture (SCAR) is associated with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and other cardiovascular diseases, with men being more susceptible to it. The treatment of ACS should take into account various causes and the stability of the patient's condition. This article reports an atypical case of a 33-year-old male patient who presented with acute chest pain and was found to have a contained rupture in the coronary artery. The case highlights the importance of considering SCAR as a differential diagnosis for ACS in adult patients, even in the absence of pericardial effusion.
