PURPOSE. This study is to evaluate the internal fit of the crown manufactured by CAD/CAM milling method and 3D printing method. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The master model was fabricated with stainless steel by using CNC machine and the work model was created from the vinyl-polysiloxane impression. After scanning the working model, the design software is used to design the crown. The saved STL file is used on the CAD/CAM milling method and two types of 3D printing method to produce 10 interim crowns per group. Internal discrepancy measurement uses the silicon replica method and the measured data are analyzed with One-way ANOVA to verify the statistic significance. RESULTS. The discrepancy means (standard deviation) of the 3 groups are 171.6 (97.4) mu m for the crown manufactured by the milling system and 149.1 (65.9) and 91.1 (36.4) mu m, respectively, for the crowns manufactured with the two types of 3D printing system. There was a statistically significant difference and the 3D printing system group showed more outstanding value than the milling system group. CONCLUSION. The marginal and internal fit of the interim restoration has more outstanding 3D printing method than the CAD/CAM milling method. Therefore, the 3D printing method is considered as applicable for not only the interim restoration production, but also in the dental prosthesis production with a higher level of completion.

Virtual Planning and Rapid 3D Prototyping Surgical Guide for Anterior Crown Lengthening Surgery: A Clinical Case Report

Jaewon Kim, Yu-Chun Lin, Michael Danielak, Minh Van, Du-Hyeong Lee, Hyeongil Kim, Praveen R. Arany

Summary: Progress in additive 3D printing is transforming biomaterial manufacturing in the field of clinical dentistry and prosthodontics. Using digital techniques and CAD software, surgical guides for crown lengthening can be produced with comparable effectiveness to conventional methods. However, further research is needed to address concerns regarding proximal bone reduction.

ACCURACY OF REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE METAL FRAMEWORKS FABRICATED BY COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN/COMPUTER-AIDED MANUFACTURING METHOD: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS

Hai Yen Mai, Hang-Nga Mai, Ho-Jin Kim, Jaesik Lee, Du-Hyeong Lee

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the accuracy of removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks fabricated by computer-aided design/ computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems and conventional casting methods. The study found that the fit accuracy of CAD/CAM-fabricated frameworks was lower than that of frameworks produced by the conventional casting method.

Accuracy of Augmented Reality-Assisted Navigation in Dental Implant Surgery: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Hang-Nga Mai, Van Viet Dam, Du-Hyeong Lee

Summary: This study is the first systematic review and meta-analysis that evaluates the accuracy of dental implant placements using AR navigation. The results indicate that AR navigation is more accurate than the freehand method and conventional navigation, and comparable to template-guided surgery. This review highlights the potential of AR navigation as an effective and accurate surgical guide for dental implant placement.

Comparison of Osseointegration of Dental Implants Placed in Rabbit Tibia Using Two Dental Laser and Implant Handpiece Systems

Jin-Han Park, Keunbada Son, Young-Tak Son, Yong-Gun Kim, Jo-Young Suh, Kyu-Bok Lee, Jae-Mok Lee

Summary: The present study aimed to confirm the usefulness of a multi-laser handpiece system currently under development. The results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the multi-laser handpiece system and the conventional separate laser-implant handpiece system in terms of implant placement, except for implant initial stability. The multi-laser handpiece system is expected to provide the same results as the conventional system with higher implant initial stability, and potentially improve the clinical environment for clinicians.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the preferences and requirements of various dental professionals regarding dental computer-aided design (CAD) software and artificial intelligence (AI). A total of 93 participants were included, and factor analysis was used to categorize the survey items into six categories. The results showed that design quality, convenience, margin line setting, and automatic margin setting were considered important. There were also differences in preferences among different dental personnel groups, and certain factors were more important to dentists and dental hygienists. Age, occupation, and work experience also influenced the importance of specific survey items.

The Impact of Mechanical Debridement Techniques on Titanium Implant Surfaces: A Comparison of Sandblasted, Acid-Etched, and Femtosecond Laser-Treated Surfaces

Seung-Mo Eun, Keunbada Son, Sung-Min Hwang, Young-Tak Son, Yong-Gun Kim, Jo-Young Suh, Jun Ho Hwang, Sung-Min Kwon, Jong Hoon Lee, Hyun Deok Kim, Kyu-Bok Lee, Jae-Mok Lee

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of different mechanical debridement methods on the surface roughness of dental implants. It found that femtosecond laser-treated surfaces had higher roughness compared to conventionally machined and SLA surfaces. Mechanical debridement methods further increased the roughness of femtosecond laser-treated surfaces, while scaling reduced the roughness of SLA surfaces.

How Does the Use of an Intraoral Scanner Affect Muscle Fatigue? A Preliminary In Vivo Study

KeunBaDa Son, Ji-Min Lee, Young-Tak Son, Jin-Wook Kim, Myoung-Uk Jin, Kyu-Bok Lee

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate muscle activation and fatigue in dentists during tooth preparation and intraoral scanning tasks. The results showed no significant difference in muscle activation and fatigue between the two types of dental unit chair systems. However, muscle fatigue significantly increased after simulating the use of intraoral scanner multiple times. To reduce the incidence of musculoskeletal disorders in dentists, it is necessary to avoid continuous intraoral scanning and tooth preparation and take appropriate rest.
