Summary: The product of Bowen ratio with precipitation and evaporation has been used to evaluate the spatial distribution of lightning flash rate in South/Southeast Asian region. Model simulations show a positive correlation with satellite observations on both seasonal and annual scales. The projected lightning flash rate shows an increase in the future, especially in high radiative forcing scenarios, indicating a potential increase in extreme events.
