Summary: This study confirms the long-term continuity of lithic manufacturing techniques at the Matja Kuru 2 site in Timor-Leste, while also documenting changes in technology and raw material selection. The study suggests that changes in the availability of freshwater in Lake Ira Lalaro may have influenced the site's use and abandonment.

Summary: A new species of limestone-dwelling Bent-toed gecko, Cyrtodactylus santana sp. nov., was discovered in Nino Konis Santana National Park in Timor-Leste. Genetic and morphological data supported the distinctiveness of the new species, which belongs to the C. darmandvillei group and shows close genetic affinities to other species in Indonesia. This finding fills an important gap in the understanding of the biogeography and evolutionary history of Cyrtodactylus in the Wallacean region.

Summary: Recent research has shown that early humans in Europe had access to a variety of animal meat and bone marrow, and likely faced competition from large predators. However, little is known about their specific food acquisition methods and butchery processes.

Summary: This paper presents the first taphonomic analyses of faunal remains from the Deacon and Wurz excavation at Klasies River, South Africa. The results suggest a possible link between occupational intensity and declining foraging efficiency at the site. More taphonomic samples are needed to further explore this relationship.

Summary: This article examines the seasonal scheduling of resource procurement and technological investment in early hominins. It explores the behavioral flexibility of Oldowan hominins in targeting different seasonally vulnerable demographics and discusses the impact of seasonal environments on lithic assemblages and resource handling costs. It also highlights the adaptive nature of Oldowan hominins in response to seasonal constraints and opportunities.

Summary: Owls are important contributors to small vertebrate accumulations in archaeological sites by producing pellets rich in micromammal remains. This study collected barn owl pellets from two different environments in Botswana to provide additional data on local wildlife inventory and information about the diet and hunting habits of Tyto alba in the area. The study confirms that barn owl assemblages are reliable indicators of local environmental conditions and discusses methodological issues facing micromammal studies in southern Africa.

Summary: The analysis of subsistence practices in the Lesser Sunda Islands provides insight into anatomically modern humans' adaptation to insular environments. This study focuses on the inland cave site Matja Kuru 2 in Timor-Leste and examines the faunal assemblage to determine the role of humans and non-human predators in accumulating different animal remains. The results show evidence of human predation on large and giant murids, freshwater turtles, and fish, contributing to our understanding of human behavior and deposition dynamics in Island Southeast Asia.

Summary: During the Holocene, Wallacea experienced significant sociocultural changes and environmental changes that influenced human socioeconomic adaptations. Excavations at the Hatu Saur cave site in Timor-Leste revealed settlement patterns influenced by sea level change and estuarine infilling. The findings also showed the impact of external influences on the indigenous culture and economy of Timor.

Summary: The Wallacean islands have a deep history of human presence, but prior population history research has been hindered by patchy archaeological and genetic records. Recent studies show two periods of extensive demographic change in Wallacea, occurring around 15,000 years ago during the Last Glacial Maximum and 3,000 years ago post-Austronesian contact.

Summary: This paper focuses on the archaeological discovery of fossilized toxic fish in a Filipino site dating back to approximately 13,000 years ago. The presence of these fish suggests that they were used to make poison. The findings indicate that the early inhabitants possessed advanced cultural knowledge in separating the toxic parts from the edible ones.
