Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the association between endometriosis and the risk of severe maternal morbidity (SMM). The findings showed that women with endometriosis have a higher risk of SMM, especially in cases of vaginal delivery. Precautions should be taken before delivery to anticipate potential complications.

Summary: This study analyzed 2,412,075 deliveries in Quebec, Canada between 1989 and 2019, finding that pregnant women with prior bariatric surgery have similar risks as nonobese women for most types of severe maternal morbidity, except for intensive care unit admission.

Summary: This study investigated the association between maternal age and severe maternal morbidity (SMM) in a Korean population. The results showed that teenagers and women aged 35 and older had an increased risk of SMM in both nulliparous and multiparous cases. Furthermore, women aged 40 and older had the highest rates of SMM. Identifying and managing risk factors for SMM in these vulnerable age groups may improve maternal health outcomes.

Summary: This study aims to examine the temporal trends and regional variation in severe maternal morbidity (SMM) in Sweden. The results showed that the composite SMM rates increased and then declined from 1999 to 2019, consistent with changes in severe hemorrhage rates. Among the SMM types, severe pre-eclampsia, severe hemorrhage, and sepsis were the most common. These findings provide important insights into the maternal health status in different regions of Sweden and highlight the need for improvement in maternal health.

Summary: The study shows that unfavorable pregnancy outcomes increase with maternal age, with women over 40 having a higher risk of complications such as cesarean delivery, hospitalization, and neonatal morbidity. Monitoring should be intensified for pregnant women over 35 years old.

Summary: Women who have experienced severe maternal morbidity have a relatively high risk of recurrent morbidity in the subsequent pregnancy, especially if multiple types of severe maternal morbidity occurred in their first delivery. Women with cardiac complications during their first delivery have the highest risk of severe maternal morbidity in the next delivery.

Summary: This study found that inadequate prenatal care is associated with an increased risk of severe maternal morbidity in teenage pregnancies, especially when the pregnant mothers have comorbidities. Public health policy makers should focus on ensuring teenage mothers receive adequate prenatal care and support during their pregnancies.

Summary: This study used machine learning techniques to identify patients at risk for postpartum hemorrhage and successfully developed models based on a large amount of clinical data. The results showed that machine learning models can be used for individualized preventive measures, but the sensitivity needs to be improved in specific clinical applications.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the differences in mortality, neurologic disability, and prognostic factors associated with status epilepticus (SE) across sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. The study found that there were variations in outcomes and prognostic factors between pediatric and adult SE patients, with higher mortality in adults but more commonly developed disabilities in children and adolescents.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between pre-pregnancy BMI and severe maternal morbidity (SMM), perinatal death, and severe neonatal morbidity in twin pregnancies. The results showed little association between overweight or obese pregnant women and adverse outcomes, while underweight pregnant women had a higher risk of adverse outcomes, indicating a need for specific care.

Summary: Men have a higher risk of hospitalization, ICU admission, and death due to COVID-19, especially in the age group over 50 where the risk of COVID-19 death for men is more than four times higher than women. The within-household design did not provide further explanation for the gender disparity. Among patients hospitalized due to COVID-19, men have an increased risk for various secondary outcomes, which persists even after adjusting for confounding factors.

Summary: The study investigated the trends, determinants, and outcomes of cesarean delivery on maternal request (CDMR) and found that the prevalence of CDMR remained stable, with women planning CDMR having a lower risk of adverse outcomes compared to those planning vaginal delivery. Further investigation into the long-term implications of CDMR is warranted.

Summary: The closure of ART clinics during the early pandemic resulted in a significant decline in ART-conceived live births and multiple births, as well as an increase in stillbirths among ART-conceived births. Women who conceived during the early pandemic period also had a higher prevalence of obesity and chronic hypertension.

Summary: A study compared neonatal mortality rates in 125.5 million live births across 15 countries from 2000 to 2020. The findings showed that preterm newborns with small size for gestational age had the highest mortality rates. At the population level, preterm newborns with appropriate size for gestational age contributed the most to neonatal deaths.

Summary: In this study, the prevalence and neonatal mortality of large for gestational age (LGA) and macrosomia were compared among live births in 15 countries. Summary: This study examines the impact of preterm birth and size-for-gestational age on stillbirths using six different "newborn types". The findings reveal that nearly three-quarters of stillbirths are preterm, while one-fifth are small-for-gestational-age. The combination of preterm and small-for-gestational-age births is associated with the highest stillbirth rates.

Summary: This study retrospectively derived pregnancy RIs using LIS data linked to provincial perinatal registry data. Analyses of CBC data during pregnancy revealed that trimester-specific bins may not be suitable for some parameters, supporting the use of gestational age or empirically derived bins for defining CBC normal values during pregnancy.
