Summary: The purpose of this study was to objectively quantify the changes in corneoscleral profile caused by wearing different soft contact lens materials, as evaluated by the limbus position and corneoscleral junction angle. The results showed that short-term soft contact lens wear significantly impacted the limbal position and CSJ angle, and there were significant differences between different sectors of the cornea. There was no evidence to suggest that one material caused more substantial corneoscleral alterations than the other.

Summary: This study provides experimental evidence of the reliability and reusability of cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) moulds in the manufacturing of soft contact lenses. These moulds maintained high performance surface roughness characteristics even after repeated use and exposure to high intensity ultraviolet (UV) light. Comparison with commercial lenses showed that the surface roughness of lenses made using COC moulds remained almost unchanged.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of hyaluronic acid eye drops with different viscosity on visual function and anterior surface aberrations during soft contact lens wear. Results showed varying effects on high-contrast visual acuity with different concentrations of HA, depending on the type of contact lens material used. However, there were no clinically relevant changes in anterior surface aberrations.

Summary: In this study, single cell RNA sequencing revealed that anterior segment mesenchyme (ASM) differentiates into corneal epithelium/endothelium/stroma or annular ligament (AL) cell lineages as early as 48 hpf. Clustering analysis indicates common developmental pathways for corneal endothelium/stroma and AL, and distinct pathways for corneal epithelium starting at 48 hpf. The spatial and temporal validation of over 80 genes associated with anterior segment (AS) development demonstrated high conservation with mammalian trabecular meshwork and corneal tissues.

Summary: This study utilized 3D magnetic resonance imaging to investigate the regional variations in surface area and bulbosity of four anterior segment regions of the human eye, and their association with refractive status, axial length, and total ocular volume. The results showed significant regional differences in surface area, with myopic individuals having smaller surface areas in certain quadrants.

Summary: This research aims to evaluate the impact of aging on the friction of contact lenses (CL) and identify the material modifications that may cause variations in the friction coefficient post-aging. A simulated aging process was conducted to replicate the effects of transition between closed and open eyes and exposure to environmental aggressions, such as ultraviolet radiation, which are the main factors influencing CL material surface. The friction and stiffness of the CL were characterized before and after the aging process, showing an increase in both parameters for all types of contact lenses. Hydrogel lenses were least affected by aging, while silicone-hydrogel lenses based on delefilcon A exhibited the least stability of properties.

Summary: Pesticide exposure leads to deterioration of ocular health and various eye conditions such as irritation, tear overproduction, surface abrasions, and decreased visual acuity. Eye tissues absorb pesticides more quickly and are more susceptible to damage. Current methods of mitigating pesticide-induced toxicity, such as topical eye drops, have limited efficacy due to low bioavailability and short duration. Contact lenses and nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems show promise in increasing bioavailability and prolonging drug effects. This review focuses on the futuristic aspects of using contact lenses for drug delivery and corneal protection from ocular toxicity.

Summary: The study revealed distinct differences in corneal and scleral shape between keratoconus patients and controls, with significant changes induced by different types of specialty lenses. The asymmetry of peripheral cornea showed a strong correlation with scleral asymmetry in keratoconus eyes, indicating a potential relationship between these parameters in shaping the anterior eye.

Summary: Observations made during Scheimpflug densitometry analysis on KC-affected corneas revealed a bright area on the densitometry map corresponding to the cone location in most cases. The characteristics of this area, including brightness, contrast, and the presence of a delineating arc, correlated with KC severity and were more noticeable in advanced cases.

Summary: This study investigated the gender gap in first/last authors in vision science and examined whether gender affects manuscript review times. The results showed that in ophthalmology journals, there is a higher percentage of female first authors, but manuscripts with female first or last authors have longer review times. These differences may be attributed to a combination of gender bias and women's concerns with being held to higher standards.

Summary: This study aims to introduce a fully objective method to measure corneoscleral junction (CSJ) angle and evaluate it in healthy eyes. The corneoscleral topography was obtained from 105 healthy Caucasian subjects, and the CSJ angle was automatically calculated from the corneoscleral height data. The results showed that CSJ angle is rotationally asymmetric and varies regionally, with the smallest angle observed in the nasal region.
