Summary: Head and neck cancer is a common type of cancer, with smoking, alcohol consumption, and human papillomavirus being well-known predictors. Food and nutrition, particularly the intake of non-starchy vegetables and fruits, play an important role in HNC etiology and can help lower the risk of developing HNC.

Summary: This study found a positive association between seropositivity to HPV16 E7 and oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) risk, particularly among nonbetel quid or noncigarette users. Seropositivity to HPV16 E7 also showed moderate agreement with P16 expression in OPC, suggesting that HPV may be an important risk factor for OPC in Taiwan.

Summary: Lifestyle factors, including alcohol consumption and smoking, play a significant role in the development of head and neck cancers. Promoting healthy lifestyle choices is crucial for improving health and preventing diseases. Stress is known to contribute to the adoption of unhealthy habits such as alcohol and smoking. Understanding the impact of stress on lifestyle choices and exploring the underlying mechanisms can facilitate the development of prevention measures.

Summary: A study conducted in Taiwan on patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) found that they did not have a higher risk of all-cause mortality compared to patients with other cancers. However, the risk of suicide mortality in HNC patients was higher than that of patients without cancer and patients with other cancers.

Summary: The study found that in the French West Indies, smoking, drinking, high-risk HPV, family history, low BMI, and certain occupations are significantly associated with HNSCC incidence. The majority of HNSCC cases were attributed to smoking and alcohol, with an overall PAF of 89.0%. The impact was greater in men, especially in terms of smoking and drinking.

Summary: Head and neck cancer is the seventh most common type of cancer worldwide, with the predominant risk factors being tobacco use, alcohol abuse, and oncogenic viruses. Treatment typically involves a multidisciplinary approach with surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic therapy, and is challenging due to site-specific and histology-specific variations.

Summary: Head and neck cancer (HNC) incidence is on the rise globally. Research shows that individuals with an affected first-degree relative have an increased risk of developing HNC, especially if the relative is a twin. This highlights the likely contribution of genetic factors in cancer development.

Summary: This study used data from the UK Biobank to investigate the association between cancer status and the risk of dementia. The results showed that cancer patients had a lower risk of dementia, especially in those with cancers in the male genital system. Non-melanoma skin cancer and prostate cancer were also associated with a reduced risk of dementia.

Summary: This study found an association between insurance type and outcomes in patients with head and neck cancer undergoing reconstructive surgery in the United States. Specifically, Medicare and Medicaid were independently associated with extended length of stay after surgery, with Medicare also being associated with higher rates of medical complications. Efforts to address length of stay should focus on care planning and coordination.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the real-world experience of sorafenib in treating advanced DTC patients in Taiwan. Most patients started with a dose of 200 mg twice daily and had a mean daily maintenance dose of 433 mg. The most common toxicity of sorafenib was hand foot skin reaction (69%), followed by diarrhea (42%), and skin rash (33%).

Summary: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pNET) is a type of pancreatic tumor with neuroendocrine differentiation. Early stage pNET can be treated with surgical resection for long-term survival, while pNET with metastasis has a poor prognosis. In this study, it was found that c-Myc overexpression is associated with lymph node metastasis in pNET xenograft mice. Combination therapy using an mTOR inhibitor and c-Myc inhibitor or VEGFC-neutralizing protein reduced lymph node metastasis in mice with c-Myc overexpression, indicating potential therapeutic targets for pNET.

Summary: In this study, graphene quantum dots (GQDs) functionalized with amino groups and doped with nitrogen (amino-N-GQDs) were synthesized and demonstrated to be effective photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy (PDT), generating more reactive oxygen species (ROS) compared to conventional GQDs. The amino-N-GQDs also exhibited superior optical properties, high stability, and intrinsic luminescence, making them suitable as contrast probes for biomedical imaging. Furthermore, the amino-N-GQDs showed potential for clinical applications by effectively eliminating multidrug-resistant bacteria in PDT.

Summary: This study evaluated swallowing function in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) and identified risk factors for poor swallowing outcomes. Oropharyngeal tumors were found to have worse swallowing function, while nasopharyngeal tumors were associated with better swallowing function. Older age, multiple HNCs, and a history of radiotherapy were identified as important risk factors for poor swallowing outcomes.
