Background: The thioredxin reductases 1 (TrxR1) is one of the major antioxidant and redox regulators in mammalian cells. Studies have shown that TrxR1 is over expressed in many malignancy diseases. However, few studies have evaluated the role of TrxR1 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: Serum levels of TrxR1 and CEA in 142 patients with EGFR wild type and ALK negative advanced NSCLC was measured by ELISA assay before first line standard doublet chemotherapy from June 2013 to February 2016 in Hunan Cancer Hospital. Clinical characteristics and Survival data were collected and analyzed according to serum TrxR1 levels. Results: No significant differences were founded from clinic pathological variables. With the cut-off value of 12U/mL, the lower serum TrxR1 activity patients had long progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) compared with higher patients (PFS: 5.3m vs. 3.6m p=0.044, OS: 14.5m vs. 11m p<0.001). In subgroup, lower serum TrxR1 activity patients had long OS both in adenocarcinoma (ADC) (17m vs. 8m, p=0.003) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) (13m vs. 11m, p=0.035). While combining with TrxR1 activity and serum CEA concentrations, we founded that patients with lower serum TrxR1 activity and serum CEA concentrations had long OS compared with higher group patients (20m vs. 7m, p<0.001). Conclusions: Serum TrxR1 activity was not affected by clinic pathological variables. Measurement of serum TrxR1 activity might be an independent prognostic factor for EGFR wild type and ALK negative advanced NSCLC patients. Combination of serum TrxR1 activity and serum CEA concentrations need to be further profiled from bench to beside.

The efficacy and safety of albumin-bound paclitaxel plus carboplatin as neoadjuvant therapy for potentially resectable lung squamous cell carcinoma: a real-world retrospective cohort study

Wenjuan Jiang, Yuling Zhou, Liang Zeng, Yi Xiong, Li Liu, Chunhua Zhou, Haiyan Yang, Hui Guo, Fabrizio Minervini, Stefano Bongiolatti, Nong Yang, Yongchang Zhang, Min Tao

Summary: In this study, the efficacy and safety of albumin-bound paclitaxel plus carboplatin as neoadjuvant chemotherapy in potentially resectable lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) was evaluated. The results showed a high surgery conversion rate and major pathological response in potentially resectable LSCC patients. Liver dysfunction was the most common treatment-related adverse event.

Sintilimab plus docetaxel as second-line therapy of advanced non-small cell lung cancer without targetable mutations: a phase II efficacy and biomarker study

Yongchang Zhang, Lianxi Song, Liang Zeng, Yi Xiong, Li Liu, Chunhua Zhou, Haiyan Yang, Zhan Wang, Qing Xia, Wenjuan Jiang, Qinqin Xu, Nong Yang

Summary: This study demonstrates the effectiveness and safety of the combination therapy of sintilimab plus docetaxel as a second-line treatment for NSCLC without targetable mutations after progression from first-line platinum-based chemotherapy. Patients with high PD-L1 expression in circulating tumor cells showed higher objective response rate (ORR) and longer progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Patients with PD-L1 < 1% and CD8 >= 1% expression from their baseline tissue samples also had higher ORR.

Ppb-level H2S gas sensor based on CuNi-MOFs derivatives for meat freshness detection at low temperature environment

Hairui Fang, Sheng Li, Wenjuan Jiang, Huamin Zhao, Chenshuai Han, Jing Li, Gong Wang, Yuan Zhang, Shan Wang, Jin Deng, Bo Feng, Dong Wang

Summary: This paper presents a sensor for H2S gas detection in meat freshness evaluation, using a NiO-doped CuO composite derived from MOFs. The low temperature precursor hydrothermal method was found to have a guiding significance in improving the gas response performance. The sensor exhibited a high response rate and good selectivity to H2S gas, making it suitable for detecting meat spoilage under low temperature storage. This work provides a new idea for meat freshness detection in cold storage environments.

HaiRui Fang, Jin Deng, DongSheng Chen, WenJuan Jiang, SiYu Shao, MingCong Tang, JingJing Liu

Summary: This paper proposes a convolutional unit modified by transformer, which integrates transformer and CNN into a whole, and based on this unit, a series of novel lightweight diagnosis frameworks named SANet are proposed. It is demonstrated that SANet can complete the high-accuracy diagnosis task with less than three thousand parameters and has strong robustness to noise, as well as satisfactory results with few training samples.

Photo-Induced Fluorochromism of a Star-Shaped Photochromic Dye with 2,4-Dimethylthiazole Attaching to Triangle Terthiophene

Xiaochuan Li, Qixuan Qian, Wenjuan Jiang

Summary: A photochrmic triangle terthiophene dye with 2,4-dimethylthiazole attached showed regular photochromic properties under UV/Vis light irradiation alternately. The attachment of 2,4-dimethylthiazole significantly influenced both the photochromism and fluorescence of the dye. The dye could switch between ring-open and ring-closed forms, altering both color and fluorescence, during the photocyclization process in THF.

Abnormal expression of miRNA-122 in cerebral infarction and related mechanism of regulating vascular endothelial cell proliferation and apoptosis by targeting CCNG1

Xiao-Juan Yu, Tian Zhang, Zeng-Zhen Wei, Bin Gu, Ting Guo, Wen-Juan Jiang, Yue-Qin Shen, Dong Wang, Qian Wang, Jun Wang

Summary: The objective of this study was to analyze the value of serum miRNA-122 expression in the diagnosis, severity, and prognosis of Acute Cerebral Infarction (ACI), as well as the correlation mechanism of serum miRNA-122 on the proliferation and apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells in ACI. The results showed that serum miRNA-122 expression in patients with ACI was significantly higher than that in healthy controls, indicating its potential as a diagnostic marker for ACI. Furthermore, miRNA-122 may regulate ACI by inhibiting cell proliferation, increasing apoptosis, and inhibiting vascular endothelial cell regeneration through the CCNG1 channel.
