Purpose: To study the safety and clinical efficacy on combination of irreversible electroporation and allogeneic natural killer cell therapy for treating Stage III/IV pancreatic cancer, evaluating median progression free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS). Results: Adverse events of all patients were limited to grades 1 and 2, including local (mainly tussis 13.4%, nausea and emesis 7.1%, pain of puncture point 29.6% and duodenum and gastric retention 4.3%) and systemic (mainly fatigue 22.3%, fever 31.6%, and transient reduction of intraoperative blood pressure 25.1% and white cell count reduction 18.3%) reactions, fever was the most frequent. The serum amylase level at 24 h and 7 d after IRE was not significantly changed compared to those before IRE (P > 0.05). CA19-9 value was lower in IRE-NK group than in IRE at 1 month after treatment (P < 0.05). After a median follow-up of 7.4 months (3.6-11.2 months): in stage III group, median PFS was higher in IRE-NK group (9.3 months) than in IRE group (8.1 months, P = 0.0465), median OS was higher in IRE-NK (13.2 months) than in IRE (11.4 months, P = 0.0411), and median PFS was higher in who received multiple NK than single NK (9.8 months vs. 8.1 months, P = 0.0423, respectively), median OS who received multiple NK was higher than single NK (13.9 months vs. 12.3 months, P = 0.0524, respectively), the RR in IRE-NK (63.2%) was higher than in IRE (50.0%, P < 0.05); in stage IV group, median OS was higher in IRE-NK (9.8 months) than in IRE (8.7 months, P = 0.0397), the DCR in IRE-NK (66.7%) was higher than in IRE (42.9%, P < 0.05). Materials and Methods: Between July 2016 and May 2017, we enrolled 71 patients who met the enrollment criteria. The patients were divided into stage III (32 patients, 17 patients received only IRE and 15 patients received IRE-NK (Irreversible electroporation-natural killer): 8 patients underwent a course of NK and 7 patients underwent = 3 courses) and stage IV (39 patients, 22 patients received only IRE and 17 patients received IRE-NK: 9 patients underwent a course of NK and 8 patients underwent = 3 courses). The safety and short-term effects were evaluated firstly, then the median PFS, median OS, response rate (RR) and disease control rate (DCR) were assessed. Conclusions: Combination of irreversible electroporation and allogeneic natural killer cell immunotherapy significantly increased median PFS and median OS in stage III pancreatic cancer and extended the median OS of stage IV pancreatic cancer. Multiple allogeneic natural killer cells infusion was associated with better prognosis to stage III pancreatic cancer.

Qing Yang, Kunqiang Zhao, Lanjuan Cao, Xiaohua Wang, Qizhe Guo, Xingxing Liu

Summary: The combination of technology and finance has a significant impact on regional social and economic development. Strategic emerging industries, as the convergence of technological innovation and financial support, are of great significance for industrial structure adjustment and improvement of industrial quality. However, the geographical distribution of emerging strategic industries in China is uneven. Thus, this study investigates the input-output efficiency of science and technology finance integration and examines the path of integrated development of science and technology innovation and financial support. The findings reveal the large demand for financial support and obvious regional differences in the development of strategic emerging industries, with the government playing a strong guiding role. Measures and suggestions for the development of strategic emerging industries are proposed accordingly.

Summary: Psychological stress increases susceptibility to HSV-1 infection, and the underlying molecular mechanisms are unknown. This study explored the antiviral effect of rosmarinic acid (RA) and demonstrated that RA could decrease stress-augmented mortality and reduce symptoms in HSV-1-infected mice. In vitro, RA increased cell viability and inhibited stress-induced elevation of viral proteins and genes. The study revealed the critical role of lipid peroxidation in stress-induced HSV-1 susceptibility and suggested the potential of RA as an effective intervention in anti-HSV-1 therapy.

Rheological properties of wheat dough mediated by low-sodium salt

Xiaohua Wang, Ying Liang, Qi Wang, Xinlan Wang, Hanyan Li, Jinshui Wang

Summary: In this study, the correlations between dough rheology and gluten aggregation were investigated by analyzing the rheological properties of low-sodium salt dough and the molecular properties of dough gluten. The results showed that low-sodium salt improved the hardness, extensibility, and compression resistance of the dough, and induced the formation of larger protein clusters. The analysis also revealed that low-sodium salt increased the content of certain glutenin subunits and reduced the content of certain gliadin fractions, resulting in the aggregation of gluten. This study provides new insights and a more comprehensive theoretical basis for sodium reduction.

Dou Ye, Suqing Qu, Yinxiang Yang, Zhaoyan Wang, Qian Wang, Weipeng Liu, Fan Zhang, Qian Guan, Xiaohua Wang, Jing Zang, Xin Li, Hengtao Liu, Ruiqin Yao, Zhichun Feng, Zuo Luan

Summary: Immunosuppressants are not suitable for premature infants, but desensitization can induce immune tolerance. In this study, Wistar rat fetuses were injected with hOPCs-1 and returned to the mother. After desensitization, brain and muscle transplantation was performed with hOPCs-1, hNSCs-1, and hOPCs-2. The desensitized group showed higher levels of hOPCs-1 and hNSCs-1 compared to the control group, while hOPCs-2 were rejected. There were significant differences in Treg, CD4CD28, CD8CD28, and CD45RC between the desensitization and control group. Inflammatory cells were lower in the desensitized group with hOPCs-1 and hNSCs-1. hOPCs-1 could differentiate into myelin in the desensitized group. Wistar rats with desensitization developed immune tolerance.

Association of serum N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide levels with survival and renal outcomes among elderly patients with acute kidney injury in chronic heart failure

Jiebin Hou, Xin Zhang, Zhen Wu, Yang Liu, Yabin Zhang, Jiahui Zhao, Xiaohua Wang, Hongyu Chen, Guang Yang, Qiang Ma, Qingli Cheng, Qiangguo Ao

Summary: Elderly patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) have a higher incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI), which can lead to poor prognosis. The relationship between kidney dysfunction and levels of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptides (NT-proBNP) in elderly CHF patients has been analyzed in a retrospective cohort study. The results suggest that a decreased change in NT-proBNP during AKI can reduce the risk of more severe AKI and improve survival outcomes. However, an excessive decrease in NT-proBNP is a risk factor for non-recovery of renal function following AKI, especially in elderly survivors with low baseline NT-proBNP levels.
