Summary: This study investigated the trends in thyroid cancer incidence and survival, focusing on patient race and UV exposure. The findings suggest that UV exposure is negatively correlated with thyroid cancer incidence and may serve as a protective factor in its development. However, despite this correlation, black men have the worst 5-year survival rate compared to other ethnic populations.

Summary: Through analyzing 39 cases of PCS, it was found that most PCS patients had either regionally invasive or metastatic disease, and an increase in tumor extension was significantly associated with decreased overall survival. Surgery was shown to improve overall survival, but its effect was less pronounced for metastatic disease; the adjusted analysis revealed that metastatic disease was the only significant predictor of survival.

Summary: This study evaluates racial/ethnic disparities in patient care experiences among prostate cancer survivors. The findings suggest that Hispanics and non-Hispanic Asians report worse experiences in several aspects of patient care compared to non-Hispanic Whites, while non-Hispanic Blacks have lower scores in one aspect but higher scores in another.

Summary: This study analyzed CRC patients from the SEER database between 2010 and 2016 to identify the differences in incidence and risk factors associated with distant metastases. Homogeneous factors such as poorly differentiated grade and lymphatic metastasis, as well as heterogeneous factors including age and gender, were found to be associated with different patterns of metastases. The nomogram constructed in the study showed good performance in predicting distant metastases.

Summary: This study analyzed the molecular markers and clinicopathologic features of colorectal tumors from Puerto Rico to better understand the molecular pathways leading to colorectal cancer in this Hispanic subpopulation. The results showed distinct differences in the prevalence of molecular markers among tumors from Puerto Rico compared to other racial/ethnic groups, suggesting a unique molecular carcinogenic pathway among Hispanics.

Summary: The study found that women with mild or severe cognitive impairment were less likely to have undergone mammogram screening for breast cancer compared to those without cognitive impairment. Similarly, men with mild or severe cognitive impairment were less likely to have had a recent colonoscopy for colorectal cancer compared to those without cognitive impairment. Further research is needed to understand the factors contributing to these differences in cancer screening utilization among individuals with cognitive impairment.

Summary: The oncological outcome of curative surgery for urothelial carcinoma of the bladder is influenced by the caseload of the facility and the surgical experience. This study found that as the annual caseload of surgery at the facility decreased, the all-cause mortality for the patients increased significantly. Higher caseload was associated with improved overall survival, highlighting the importance of surgical experience.
