Summary: Cardiovascular disease and its concurrent risk factors are common after liver transplant. Most of these risk factors can be improved through diet modification. This study aimed to review the literature on the nutritional intake of liver transplant recipients (LTR) and the factors influencing intake. The findings showed that LTR had a high-energy, low-quality diet with inadequate intake of fruits, vegetables, fiber, and adherence to cardiovascular disease prevention guidelines.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the diet of children and families in small-holder farming households in low- and middle-income countries. Despite a decline in overall diet quality, households owning dairy animals and those producing more milk per day were able to mitigate this decline.

Summary: School gardens have become common strategies for promoting healthy dietary behaviors in the US. This study examined the effects of a one-year school-based gardening, cooking, and nutrition program on students' dietary intake and quality, showing modest improvements in protein intake and vegetable consumption in the intervention group compared to control. Further research on scaling and sustaining nutrition education programs in schools is recommended.

Summary: In regions with low selenium soil concentrations, selenium is important for vegetarians and vegans. A study was conducted on 1- to 3-year-old children to assess their selenium intake, and it was found that vegetarian and vegan children generally consumed less selenium than omnivorous children. While all three groups met the recommended selenium intake, a significant portion of vegetarians and vegans fell below the adequate intake level.

Summary: The study suggests that supplementation of vegetable choline improves fatty acid profiles in the meat of Nile tilapia raised in a biofloc system. Specifically, the treatments with 800 and 1200 mg kg(-1) led to higher levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are desirable for consumers.

Summary: The study evaluated the dietary intake and probability of nutrient adequacy of children aged 9 to 24 months in seven different sites. It was found that most children had optimal nutrient intake in Brazil and South Africa, while the probability of adequacy for vitamin A was low in Bangladesh and Tanzania. Overall, the mean probability of adequacy increased as complementary food intake increased over time.

Summary: This study compared the macronutrient intake and blood lipid profile of two different population-based cohorts to investigate the impact on 6-year-old children's health. The results showed that a lower intake of saturated and trans fatty acids, replaced by unsaturated fatty acids, may contribute to improved lipid profiles in healthy children.

Summary: This review aims to summarize the impact of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) on children's diet quality, weight status, food insecurity, and cognitive development. The association between CACFP and children's health is currently inconclusive, and more research with stronger study designs is needed.

Summary: The study found that nutrition-intensified antenatal care services can increase the frequency of home visits and counseling on core nutrition messages for pregnant women, as well as increase the intake of iron-folic acid and calcium supplements. However, maternal dietary diversity, supplement consumption, and breastfeeding practices remain suboptimal despite improvements.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between total seafood and small fish intake and the incidence and mortality of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in healthy adults. The results showed that high seafood intake was associated with a lower risk of 10-year and 20-year mortality, while high small fish intake was associated with a lower risk of 10-year incidence and mortality of CVD, especially among low-risk normotensive individuals.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between preschoolers' feelings of hunger and fullness and their learning-related skills, finding that feeling full improved impulsivity and attention, while feeling hungry improved inhibitory control. These findings highlight the independent mediation of diet composition and feelings of hunger and fullness on children's learning outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the scores of Healthy Eating Index 2015 (HEI-2015) and Energy-Adjusted Dietary Inflammatory Index (E-DII) in women's cancer survivors and examine the socio-economic characteristics associated with these two diet indices. The study found that the diet quality of women's cancer survivors is comparatively low, but many of them achieved an anti-inflammatory diet, which is a promising avenue for preventing recurrence. There is an urgent need to involve health care professionals in guiding women's cancer survivors to improve diet quality and prevent cancer recurrence.

Summary: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects a significant number of American children, leading to neophobia, food hypersensitivity, and rigid food preferences, which contribute to a higher risk of diet-related chronic diseases. This exploratory pilot study examined parental perception of food intake for themselves and their young adult children with ASD. The findings suggest a potential intergenerational transfer of dietary intake patterns, highlighting the importance of improving parental diet to enhance diet quality in young adults with ASD and prevent diet-related chronic diseases in individuals with ASD.

Summary: This systematic review examined interventions to improve fruit and vegetable intake in preschoolers attending childcare or preschool settings in the US. Most interventions used nutrition education and manipulation of the feeding environment, and showed positive effects on fruit and vegetable intake. However, there is a need for more studies to test interventions in childcare settings, compare different intervention components and behavior change techniques, and assess long-term behavior change.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the association between different forms of ghrelin and perceptions of hunger in healthy adults. It found that ghrelin concentrations are moderately correlated with perceptions of hunger in humans, and this relationship is strengthened when acylated ghrelin is isolated. Further research should focus on understanding the role of de-acylated ghrelin in hunger sensations.

Summary: This study assessed the relationship between the diversity of plant and animal protein food sources and the adequacy of essential amino acids in a population-based sample in Indonesia. The findings showed that higher protein diversity scores were associated with higher protein intakes and amino acid adequacy, while lower protein diversity scores were associated with inadequate intake of certain amino acids and factors such as rural settings, poverty, and lower levels of modernization.
