This study analyzes the gasoline sector and examines the causal relationship between gasoline consumption and economic growth in Cameroon based on annual data during the period 1975-2014. The unit root tests, the autoregressive vector (VAR) model, and the Wald test to test causality were used as econometric methodologies. The results show that the series are all I(1) and that there is no long-term relationship. The results also show that there is a bidirectional causality relationship between gasoline consumption and economic growth in Cameroon. This means that an increase in gasoline consumption affects economic growth with feedback effect. In view of the result of causality, reducing gasoline consumption without appropriate and established energy policies is not a feasible situation to maintain Cameroon's economic growth.

Solar electricity storage through green hydrogen production: A case study

Armand Fopah-Lele, Amelie Kabore-Kere, Jean Gaston Tamba, Isdeen Yaya-Nadjo

Summary: This research aims to demonstrate how much renewable hydrogen can be produced in a sub-Saharan African context (Cotonou, Benin) and includes both numerical and experimental validation. Results show a 19% efficiency for solar hydrogen production, with limitations on production rate including storage pressure and available electricity. Economic analysis indicates a levelized cost of hydrogen production from solar photovoltaic of about 1.09 euro/m³ under present conditions.

Macroscopic and microscopic investigations of low-temperature thermochemical heat storage reactors: A review

Tadagbe Roger Sylvanus Gbenou, Armand Fopah-Lele, Kejian Wang

Summary: This paper investigates the characteristics of thermochemical energy storage (TCES) reactors at temperatures below 125°C at both microscopic and macroscopic levels. The study emphasizes the importance of reactor geometry and choice of reactive bed at the microscopic scale, as well as the use of powerful software for simulation at the macroscopic scale. The review also provides a schematic description of the analysis of TCES systems, and proposes a dashboard for open and closed TCES reactors simulation.

Summary: This study aims to determine the sorption isotherms of three tropical woods from Cameroon and assess the influence of wood structure on their sorption behavior. The equilibrium moisture contents were experimentally determined, and a strong correlation was found between anatomical parameters and moisture contents. The results showed differences in sorption behavior among different woods at different temperatures, highlighting the importance of specific research data on sorption behavior of Central African woods.

Moisture desorption isotherms and thermodynamic properties of two dense tropical woods: Tali (Erythrophleum suaveolens Brenan) and Bilinga (Nauclea diderrichii Merr)

Banyuy Godwin Fonyuy, Jean Gaston Tamba, Joseph Zobo Mfomo, Armand Fopah-Lele, Benjamin Salomon Diboma, Dominique Martial Manga Bengono, Evariste Fongnzossie Fedoung, Achille Bernard Biwole

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the moisture desorption isotherms and thermodynamic properties of Tali and Bilinga woods from Cameroon. The equilibrium moisture contents decreased with increasing temperature. The GAB model best described the desorption isotherms data. Anatomical and chemical analysis revealed the structure and properties of the woods. The positive thermodynamic properties indicated that desorption was non-spontaneous and that Tali required more energy than Bilinga.

Optimal Design and Mathematical Modeling of Hybrid Solar PV-Biogas Generator with Energy Storage Power Generation System in Multi-Objective Function Cases

Takele Ferede Agajie, Armand Fopah-Lele, Isaac Amoussou, Ahmed Ali, Baseem Khan, Emmanuel Tanyi

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of grid-connected hybrid PV and biogas energy with a SMES-PHES storage system to improve the economic viability, reliability, and environmental impact of the energy system in a nation with frequent grid outages. Metaheuristic optimization techniques have been used to find the best size for the hybrid system based on evaluation parameters for financial stability, reliability, and GHG emissions. The outcomes show that NSWOA is superior to MOGWO and MOPSO in achieving the best optimum value of the predefined multi-objective function for NPC, LPSP, and GHG emissions.

Impacts of mobile phone use while driving on the performance of petroleum product drivers in Cameroon

Elisee-Enselme Tuekam-Bopda, Jean Gaston Tamba, Armand Fopah-Lele

Summary: The article focuses on the impact of mobile phone use while driving on the performance of petroleum product drivers in Cameroon. The study used a literature review and practical research to propose a hypothetico-deductive model. Through multivariate logistic regression analyses, it was found that making or receiving calls while driving significantly influences reckless driving situations, while reading and sending messages negatively affects drivers' performance. The type of phone used also affects the risk of accidents, with smartphone users being more likely to experience crash-like events compared to those using conventional phones. The article suggests the need for regular road safety campaigns, on-board cameras in trucks, rest areas, and defensive driving training for drivers.
