Summary: The working fluid temperature of the liquid ring vacuum (LRV) pump has a significant impact on its energy efficiency. Increasing the working fluid temperature leads to increased useless power and reduced suction capacity. However, by increasing the flow rate and reducing the inlet temperature, the pump operating temperature can be further reduced.

Summary: This research examines the vacuum preloading of fine-grained soft tailings related to the Sungun copper mine through laboratory tests and theoretical analysis. The experimental results showed that the initial water content and suction intensity significantly influenced the final vertical strain of the sample. Additionally, the removal time of the suction resulted in settlement, swelling, or no volume change in the sample. A new analytical model based on the Darcian law was proposed to incorporate the vacuum removal effect and accurately predict excess pore pressure dissipation and vertical strains.

Summary: This study aims to optimize the structure of cryolipolysis applicator for lowering discomfort, evaluate its cooling characteristics and lipolytic effects. The results show that different suction angles significantly affect the cooling characteristics and lipolytic effects of the applicator. A reasonable suction angle is one of the critical factors to improve the efficiency and comfort of cryolipolysis.

Summary: This study compared the efficiency of suction sampling (G-Vac) and pitfall trapping (Barber) in assessing diversity at different taxonomic and functional scales. It found that G-Vac was more efficient in collecting phytophagous arthropods, web-builders, and small species living in the vegetation, while pitfall trapping was more effective for assessing functional diversity.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of vitamin D-3 supplementation on peripheral neuropathy (PN) in multiple myeloma (MM) patients. The results showed that using higher doses of vitamin D-3 than recommended in current guidelines significantly increased vitamin D levels in patients and decreased PN severity.

Summary: The binding mode of cationic porphyrin with DNA base pairs and the B-Z transition were studied through absorption spectrum and circular dichroism measurements. Different binding modes lead to variations in molecular structure and the induction of B-Z transition through extensive stacking along the DNA skeleton.

Summary: This study applies a robust 3-D generalized/eXtended finite element method (G/XFEM) algorithm for predicting fracture propagation in concrete and validates its capability to capture the size effect behavior. The results show that the method can accurately predict the load-displacement characteristics and size effect behavior of concrete beams. The study also presents an empirical correlation model that modifies the Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM) solution to successfully predict the concrete size effect law.

Summary: The d-g-C3N4-Fe composite material was prepared via a self-assembly and calcination process, demonstrating high degradation efficiency for hydroxyl-containing and hydrophobic pollutants. The Fe(III)-pi interaction on the catalyst surface can oxidize pollutants and decrease the consumption of H2O2, while the role of OVs depends on pollutant adsorption patterns.

Summary: The protein-protein interaction between nNOS and CAPON is a potential target for the treatment of ischemic stroke. A series of peptides based on the carboxy-terminal tetrapeptide of CAPON were designed and synthesized to disrupt this interaction. The compound N-cyclohexylethyl-ADAV showed the highest affinity for the nNOS PDZ domain and further modifications led to improved bioavailability and reduced infarct size in rats.

Summary: This study investigates the allosteric modulation of D-2 receptors and demonstrates that subtle ligand modifications can affect the modulation. Molecular dynamics simulations and in vitro studies reveal the structural changes induced by the modulators, highlighting the significance of the transmembrane helix 7 region. These findings are important for the design and development of novel allosteric modulators targeting D-2 receptors.

Summary: In mouse models, the concomitant use of pegfilgrastim and 5-fluorouracil inhibits the decrease of granulocytic cells caused by 5-fluorouracil. In patients with esophageal cancer, early administration of pegfilgrastim significantly reduces the incidence of febrile neutropenia and grade 4 neutropenia during docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil therapy.

Summary: This article presents the results of laboratory measurements on the breakdown voltages in a high-voltage vacuum insulating system, considering factors such as pressure, contact gaps, electrode contacts, and residual gas type. It was found that the electrical strength remains constant below a pressure of 3.0 x 10-1 Pa, while above this pressure, the breakdown voltages decrease sharply. The type of residual gas used also affects the point at which insulating properties are lost in the system.
