Summary: Coatings were grown on the AZ31 Mg alloy via a hard anodizing process in the hot glycerol phosphate-containing electrolyte. The optimized anodizing conditions and post-anodizing annealing treatment further enhanced the corrosion resistance of the coatings, mainly composed of magnesium phosphate. The coatings exhibited good biocompatibility and are suitable for biomedical devices.

Summary: The effect of laser surface melting on the corrosion resistance of AZ31 Mg alloy was investigated. The results showed that laser treatment significantly increased the corrosion resistance of the alloy, which could be attributed to the increased surface concentration and the formation of a passive-like region.

Summary: Plasma electrolytic fluorination (PEF) was conducted on AZ31 Mg alloy in ethylene glycol (EG) electrolytes with varying amounts of H3PO4. The effects of H3PO4 addition on the microstructure, growth behavior, and corrosion resistance of the PEF coatings were investigated. The results showed that the addition of H3PO4 weakened the plasma discharges and decreased the crystallinity of the PEF coating. When the H3PO4 content reached 20 g/L, the PEF coating transformed into an amorphous state. Furthermore, adding H3PO4 into the EG electrolytes increased the growth rates of the PEF coatings and changed the growth mechanism from inward growth to mixed growth dominated by outward growth. The corrosion resistance of the PEF coating varied with the H3PO4 content in the EG electrolytes, with the best corrosion resistance observed at an H3PO4 content of 10 g/L.

Summary: Magnesium alloys have excellent mechanical and physical properties, but their poor corrosion resistance hampers their application in aqueous and atmospheric environments. To address this issue, a new sol-gel coating using polydopamine was developed, which significantly improved the corrosion protection performance of magnesium alloy AZ31. This coating demonstrated enhanced durability and provided long-term corrosion protection for over 20 days in an aqueous NaCl solution, compared to unmodified coatings that failed after only 3 days of immersion.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of grain size on deformation twinning behavior in pure titanium during uniaxial compression, using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) technology. Results showed that small initial grains led to higher yield strength due to greater deformation coordination ability, with more twin variants and twin lamellae activated as the grain size increased. Grain size also influenced the type and structures of twin-twin interactions, affecting twin growth and material hardening.
