Summary: This article introduces a type of smart polymer called schizophrenic copolymers that exhibit invertible colloidal structures in response to temperature stimuli. However, the lack of predictive principles for their phase transition temperature and limited studies on their applications have hindered their development. In this study, a series of schizophrenic copolymers were synthesized and their co-assembly with proteins was investigated, showing promising potential in biomedical applications.

Summary: This article describes Richard Schwartz's development of the Internal Family Systems model (IFS) from his perspective as a Structural/Strategic family therapist. The IFS model incorporates ideas from family systems thinking to address internal experiences. The author outlines the ways in which family therapy theories contributed to the development and best practice of the IFS model.

Summary: COAMS have gained interest in the pharmaceutical industry for combining the benefits of amorphous and crystalline forms. This study developed a model to predict successful COAMS formation, considering four classes of combinations. The model accurately predicted COAMS formation and was used to screen for new COAMS in inhalation therapy. Experimental testing confirmed the model's predictions.

Summary: This study found that a mixed intervention program of both music therapy (MT) and dance movement therapy (DMT) can reduce autism symptoms and improve social communication impairments in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) when implemented in the family setting. The intervention lasted for 3 months and involved both the child and their parents. A pre-test and post-test were conducted, and the severity of ASD symptoms and the effects of intervention were assessed using the childhood autism rating scale (CARS) and the autism treatment evaluation checklist (ATEC).

Summary: Livestock in Iowa, US, annually produces over 50 million Mg of wet-basis manure. Although anaerobic digestion (AD) of manure offers various benefits, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing renewable energy, it is rarely deployed at swine farms in Iowa. This study examines the economics of AD systems in Iowa and evaluates the reasons for low deployment. It also explores the production cost impacts of biogas cleaning and injection, manure amendment with biomass, and centralization of digesters.

Summary: This qualitative study explored factors related to dropout in Functional Family Therapy (FFT) by examining the experiences of families who completed FFT and those who dropped out. Findings suggest that key factors in retaining families in FFT include establishing a shared problem definition and a balanced therapeutic alliance, as well as credibility and relevance of the therapeutic work, openness in therapy, and practical barriers. Therapists should focus on motivation to participate in therapy and address differences in barriers between parents and young people to retain families in the FFT model.

Summary: A study in Sweden examined the cost-effectiveness of combining PMT and CPP for the treatment of oppositional defiant disorder in children. The results showed that while the combination therapy cost on average 820 EURO more per family than PMT alone, the combination therapy resulted in a higher percentage of recovered cases of ODD at the two-year follow-up, indicating clinically relevant gains.

Summary: This study investigated whether cognitive reappraisal and coparenting quality moderate the spillover effect of marital relationship on parent-child relationships for mothers and fathers. The results showed that there was a within-day spillover of marital emotional climate to parent-child emotional climate for both mothers and fathers. However, only fathers' spillover effect was moderated by cognitive reappraisal, and coparenting quality accounted for the next-day associations between fathers' marital emotional climate and parent-child emotional climate.

Summary: Suicide among post-secondary students is a significant public health concern. While there have been studies on suicide prevention programs, the effective elements of these interventions are still unknown. This study reviewed the literature and identified potential effective elements of suicide prevention programs for post-secondary students. Gatekeeper training programs were found to be the most common type of intervention. These programs have the potential to improve students' engagement with mental health services, knowledge, help-seeking attitudes and behaviors, and gatekeeper-related outcomes.

Summary: This systematic review examines non-instrumental clinical assessment measures for adult oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) and evaluates their reliability and validity. A total of 16 measures and 32 psychometric studies were included, focusing on swallowing assessments in English-speaking adults. The results indicate incomplete data on the reliability and validity of the included measures, highlighting the need for future research using contemporary psychometric methods to develop comprehensive non-instrumental clinical assessments for adults with OD.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of young adults with developmental disabilities regarding their sexuality, societal attitudes, and access to sexual health education. The results showed that sexuality was important to them, but their autonomy was constrained by societal attitudes. They suggested that there is a need to change societal attitudes towards disability and sexuality, and to provide individualized sexual health education by professionals.

Summary: This study investigated the use of standardized language measures by speech language pathologists when assessing school-aged children. The results showed that although many standardized measures were used, only a few were used regularly. The study also found that these measures were often used to assess domains they were not specifically designed for, and for purposes they were not ideally suited to. It concludes that speech language pathologists need to focus more on evidence-based practice when selecting standardized measures for school-aged children.

Summary: There is currently no international consensus on the visuoperceptual measures to use for analyzing fiberoptic endoscopic evaluations of swallowing (FEES) recordings. This study aimed to establish the content validity of a new visuoperceptual measure for FEES. Through the Delphi technique, international consensus was achieved among dysphagia experts, resulting in a prototype measure comprising 30 items, 8 function testing items, and 36 unique operationalizations.

Summary: This study identified the associations between health issues and various factors such as demographics, housing, employment, and social participation for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV). Physical health problems were found to be related to decreased employment skills and confidence, while mental health issues were associated with unemployment and lower incomes. Screening for health impacts and providing long-term support could help alleviate the prolonged effects of IPV.

Summary: This study examined how well autistic adolescents coped with social situations and found that they were more likely to experience social anxiety when engaged in activities with adults. The ability to cope with oneself was positively associated with perceived social competence but negatively associated with coping with environmental challenges. Autistic adolescents who had difficulty coping with challenges were more likely to feel socially anxious during leisure activities with peers. These findings can help improve the social experiences of autistic adolescents by enhancing their coping skills.
