Summary: This study aimed to investigate human femur development in fetal growth restriction (FGR) by analyzing femur morphometrics and distal epimetaphyseal features on prenatal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The results showed significant differences in femur morphometrics between FGR cases and controls, with bone shortening observed in FGR. However, FGR cases and normal controls shared similarly graded distal epimetaphyseal features.

Summary: This study evaluated the presence and characteristics of microplastics in 17 placentas. Microplastics were detected in all placenta samples, and they were mainly composed of PVC, PP, and PBS. The sizes of these microplastics ranged from 20.34 to 307.29 μm, and most were smaller than 100 μm. This study provides crucial information for assessing the risk of microplastic exposure in fetuses.

Summary: This study conducted detailed morphometric analysis of the occipital squama ossification center of 37 human fetuses using CT, digital image analysis software, 3D reconstruction, and statistical methods. The findings showed linear, logarithmic, and quadratic growth patterns of the ossification center dimensions with gestational age. These numerical results can serve as age-specific references for estimating gestational age and diagnosing congenital defects.

Summary: During the prenatal development of the ear in human fetuses, the fissula ante fenestram (FAF) appears as a tear in the cartilage between the basal and second turns of the cochlea at 8-12 weeks, with a slit opening to the scala vestibuli. By 13-15 weeks, the FAF has anterosuperior and postero-inferior apertures, with the latter approaching the oval window. In the third trimester, the FAF consistently carries a single postero-inferior aperture along the anterior margin of the oval window.

Summary: The emergence of ossification centers is a useful tool for estimating prenatal fetal age, evaluating the process of fetal bone maturity, and diagnosing fetal abnormalities. This study examined the sheep fetal skeleton at different gestational ages using radiography and whole-mount skeletal staining. The results showed that ossification centers appeared from the bones near the midline of the body on the back surface at around 45-55 days of pregnancy, and the ossification of the fetal skeleton was completed at 80-95 days of pregnancy. Radiography can be used to depict the time of emergence of bone centers and to examine the evolution of the fetus during sheep pregnancy.

Summary: This study used integrated single-cell RNA sequencing and single-cell transposase-accessible chromatin sequencing analyses to investigate cellular heterogeneity and transcriptional regulatory networks during human spine development. The findings revealed that fibroblasts with stem cell characteristics can differentiate into chondrocytes and neurons may originate from neuroendocrine cells. The interaction between macrophages and neurons involving NRP2_SEMA3C and CD74_APP is crucial for spinal cord development.

Summary: The placenta plays a critical role in the health of the fetus and its mother. However, our understanding of placental development is limited due to ethical restrictions and lack of suitable models. This review discusses current knowledge of early human placental development, emphasizing the role of the maternal endometrium and fetal-maternal dialogue, and introduces the latest cell models.

Summary: This study evaluated the value of the fracture risk assessment tool (FRAX) in estimating the risk of postoperative periprosthetic fractures in patients following total hip and knee arthroplasty. The results suggest that FRAX has the potential to estimate the risk of periprosthetic fractures and should be used to assess and counsel patients before and after surgery.

Summary: This study evaluated 394 patients who underwent TDR or HS, and found that preoperative ossification was a potential risk factor for HO and high-grade HO. Patients with high-grade HO had limited ROM and a higher incidence of adjacent segment degeneration compared to those without high-grade HO.

Summary: Estimating population variables and preservation rates of postjuvenile T. rex involves using data from living species and the relationship between population density and body mass. The uncertainties in these estimations primarily stem from the variance in the density-body mass relationship, resulting in a wide range spanning two orders of magnitude.

Summary: The study identified the presence of microplastics (> 50 μm) in placenta and meconium samples from caesarean deliveries, with polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and polyurethane being the main types detected. However, airborne polyurethane microplastics were also found in the operating room, indicating potential contamination sources. Further research into nano-sized plastics in human tissues is recommended.

Summary: Deficiency of mitochondrial outer membrane GTPase Mitofusin 2 (MFN2) leads to decreased mitochondrial respiration, enhanced inflammatory responses, and increased interactions between endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria. This deficiency potentiates the inflammatory signaling pathways triggered by zymosan in human macrophages.

Summary: F-18 labeled FDOPA is commonly used in PET diagnostics for diseases such as schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, gliomas, neuroendocrine tumors, pheochromocytomas, and pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The synthesis of F-18 labeled FDOPA has been improved to achieve higher efficiency and purity using various methods. This study successfully synthesized [F-18]F-DOPA using the ABX 1336 precursor on a Raytest SynChrom R&D module, with a radiochemical yield of 15% and high radiochemical and enantiomeric purity.
