Summary: The addition of silica nano-particles significantly extended the fatigue life of CFRP by enhancing the connection strength between polymer and carbon fiber, and by passivating and even blocking the growth of fatigue cracks. The fatigue damage morphologies of the nano-particles modified CFRP were closely related to stress magnitude, and stiffness degradation exhibited staged change characteristics with the evolution of damage morphologies.

Summary: In this study, the unique layered structure of the fibers from deep-sea sponge Euplectella aspergillum was investigated using in situ tensile testing and fractography. The real-time observation revealed that the failure of fibers initiated from the surface and propagated towards the center through successive layers. The concentric layers sacrificed themselves to protect the central core through various toughening mechanisms. These findings provide insights for the design of architected materials for load-bearing applications.

Summary: The study evaluates the mechanical properties of unmodified and nano TiO2 coated flax fibre composites. Improvement in tensile, flexural, and interlaminar shear strength was observed with the use of nano TiO2 coating and silane treatment. Reduction in water diffusion coefficient and enhanced compatibility between fibres and matrix were achieved, leading to improved mechanical properties and water absorption resistance.

Summary: The synthesis of ultrathin rhenium disulfide nanoribbons within single-walled carbon nanotubes has been achieved through controlled reactions with confined rhenium atoms, resulting in tailored width, structure, and composition. This low-dimensional material is expected to retain the electronic properties of bulk ReS2 and shows promise for applications in nanoscale electronic devices.

Summary: The study investigated the mechanical performance of basalt fiber-reinforced fly ash-based geopolymer pastes with varying contents of nano CaCO3. Results showed that 3% nano CaCO3 improved compressive strength and hardness, while 2% nano CaCO3 enhanced flexural strength, impact strength, and fracture toughness of the composite paste. SEM analysis indicated that nano CaCO3 addition improved microstructure and densification of geopolymer paste.

Summary: Nano-alloys, especially nano-porous alloys, have significant potential advantages in heterogeneous catalysis. Despite the synthetic challenge of controlling their precise compositions, previous research has successfully fabricated magnetic nano-porous Co-Pd alloys with controllable compositions. These alloys exhibit improved catalytic activity and can be easily recovered due to their magnetic properties, making them promising candidates for efficient catalysts.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of stacking sequence on the torque capacity of holed aluminum/composite hybrid tubes. The results show that adding a 90 degrees composite layer in the hybrid tube improves the effectiveness of the subsequent reinforcement. The torque-carrying capacity of the hybrid structure is increased by 2.6 times compared to the aluminum tube.

Summary: Tendon injuries can result in limited range of motion and poor biomechanical outcomes. A novel three-layer tube based on polymer DegraPol with incorporated IGF-1 was developed using emulsion electrospinning. The IGF-1-containing tubes exhibited sustained release of the growth factor and showed bioactivity by upregulating gene expression. They also demonstrated superior mechanical properties compared to pure DP tubes. These tubes may help accelerate the healing process and reduce adhesion formation.

Summary: In this study, a ternary nanocomposite consisting of copper oxide/ruthenium oxide and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CuO/RuO2/MWCNTs) was synthesized using a hydrothermal method for supercapacitor electrode applications. Different ratios of CuO and RuO2 were used to improve the electrochemical performance of the electrode. The synthesized nanocomposites were characterized using various techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, thermo gravimetric analysis, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The specific capacitance of the nanocomposite with 7 wt% Cu and 20 wt% Ru was found to be the highest.

Summary: In this research, the thermophysical properties of salt hydrate PCMs were improved by dispersing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (FMWCNTs) nanoparticles. The prepared nanocomposite showed enhanced melting enthalpy and thermal conductivity, making it a potential candidate for solar thermal energy storage applications.

Summary: Quantitative estimation of dislocations in flax bast fibers revealed that defects mainly occur during scutching, with no dislocations found in fibers within the stem. This suggests that disruption of flax stem integrity and mechanical treatments are the main factors in fiber deformation.

Summary: Stacking order plays a significant role in the properties of van der Waals layered magnets, and recent studies suggest possible different stackings in few-layer crystals. This study combines atomic-scale electron microscopy and theoretical calculations to show that while the bulk stacking persists in bilayers of MnPS3, the local rippling effect lifts the monoclinic symmetry of the few layers. This finding reveals the impact of rippling on the microscopic symmetry of two-dimensional materials and suggests the possibility of approaching the two-dimensional Neel antiferromagnetic honeycomb lattice in MnPS3 without reaching monolayer thickness.

Summary: The potential of deep learning in materials science for microscopic analyses is highlighted, despite the challenge of limited image availability for model training. A methodology has been proposed to create accurate image recognition models with small datasets, incorporating material science insights efficiently through magnification considerations and appropriate transformations. The results demonstrate that models trained with this methodology can surpass human experts in performance.

Summary: This manuscript presents an experimental investigation of the friction and wear properties of PMMA nanocomposites reinforced with functionalized MWCNTs. The results indicate that the MWCNTs can effectively enhance the tribological performance of PMMA. The optimal MWCNT loading was found to be 0.5 wt.%, resulting in the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate.
