Summary: This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the migration and invasion of tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) cells. The study found that miR-203 expression was lower in TSCC tissues than in normal oral mucosa and non-tonsillar SCC (NTSCC) tissues. Transfection of miR-203 mimic inhibited cell migration and invasion in TSCC cells, but not in NTSCC cells. The study suggests that the miR-203/SLUG axis may be involved in the metastatic mechanisms of TSCC.

Summary: Bladder cancer (BLCA) is a common cancer with high mortality ranking 9th. The relationship between autophagy and epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) in BLCA is poorly understood. This study identified the autophagy-related gene RAB14 and demonstrated its promotion of EMT, migration, and invasion in bladder cancer cells through the Akt-associated autophagic pathway. Knocking down RAB14 inhibited EMT and autophagy in T24 cells, and RAB14 levels were positively correlated with key autophagy genes LC3B and Beclin1. These findings suggest the potential role of RAB14 in BLCA progression.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer death worldwide. This study found that low expression of NAP1L5 in HCC was associated with shorter survival and disease-free survival. NAP1L5 inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of hepatoma cells, and induced apoptosis. It also inhibited the growth and metastasis of HCC cells in vivo. Mechanistically, NAP1L5 regulated the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway by controlling MYH9 to affect the occurrence and development of HCC. NAP1L5 may be a potential target for liver cancer treatment.
