Recent advances in in vitro gametogenesis (IVG), including in humans, have raised ethical concerns regarding the potential misuse and manipulation of 'artificial embryos'. However, basic research onIVG is expected to be of immense scientific and social value provided that the ethical, legal, and social issues are carefully considered.
