Summary: This study aimed to assess whether subcuticular suture is superior to surgical staples in reducing the incidence of superficial incisional surgical site infection (si-SSI) in elective HBP surgery. The results showed that although subcuticular suture may offer a relative benefit in reducing si-SSI incidence, it is not clinically relevant.

Summary: In this study, 375 patients were researched, with 187 patients in the treatment group and 188 patients in the control group. There were 12 cases of surgical site infection in the treatment group and 11 cases in the control group, with no significant difference between the two groups. Gram-negative bacterial infections were more common in the treatment group.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effects of using permanent suture and absorbable suture for uterosacral ligament suspension surgery. The results showed that absorbable suture was not inferior to permanent suture in terms of apical anatomic outcomes. There were no significant differences in postoperative outcomes, recurrence rates, and adverse events between the two types of sutures at 12 months.

Summary: This trial evaluated the superiority of intraoperative wound irrigation with povidone-iodine compared with saline for reducing surgical site infection. The results showed that the irrigation with povidone-iodine did not significantly reduce the incidence of incisional SSI, suggesting a need for reconsideration of the current recommendation.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of absorbable and nonabsorbable sutures for the repair of acute Achilles tendon rupture, and found that there was no difference in terms of muscle strength, patient-reported outcomes, and re-rupture rate between the two groups, suggesting that absorbable sutures may be considered for the repair of acute Achilles tendon ruptures.

Summary: A survey was conducted among vascular clinicians to assess their opinion and practice on interventions to prevent groin wound surgical site infection (SSI) following arterial surgery. The majority of participants believed that groin wound SSI is a major problem and expressed willingness to use the proposed interventions. There was clinical equipoise in randomizing patients to any of the interventions versus standard care, although some reluctance was observed regarding the use of impregnated incise drapes.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of trainee gender on assessments of coronary anastomosis performance. It finds that early career male surgeons may exhibit gender bias against female trainees when evaluating their performance. The Global Rating Scale (GRS) demonstrates higher interrater reliability and robustness against gender bias in the assessment of technical performance than the Checklist.

Summary: Surgical site infections occur in 0.5% to 3% of patients undergoing surgery and are associated with longer hospital stays. Measures such as avoiding razors, maintaining normothermia, using chlorhexidine gluconate plus alcohol-based skin preparation, decolonization with intranasal antistaphylococcal agents, controlling perioperative glucose concentrations, and using negative pressure wound therapy can reduce the rate of surgical site infections.

Summary: Silk sutures with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory functions were developed for sustained dual-drug delivery to prevent surgical site infections. The silk sutures demonstrated both rapid and sustained release of drugs, inhibiting biofilm formation and promoting wound healing. These sutures exhibited favorable biocompatibility and potential for surgical applications.

Summary: Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis can help with risk stratification and treatment decisions for patients with resectable colorectal cancer (CRC). The study found that postsurgical ctDNA positivity was associated with higher recurrence risk and was the most significant prognostic factor for patients with stage II or III CRC. Furthermore, ctDNA positivity identified patients who derived benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy.

Summary: This paper proposes a shared backup allocation model for middleboxes considering the workload-dependent failure rate of backup servers. The simulated annealing algorithm is used to solve this problem. Experimental results show that the proposed model can reduce the maximum unavailability by an average of 29% compared to the baseline model under different conditions.
