Summary: This study evaluated the rapid-onset gender dysphoria (ROGD) hypothesis by analyzing the 2015 US Transgender Survey. The findings suggest that a significant proportion of transgender adults realize their gender identity during adolescence or later and it takes several years to share their identity with others. The results do not support the ROGD hypothesis.

Summary: This study aimed to assess and compare the mental health of transgender youth by sex assigned at birth. The results showed that assigned male at birth (AMAB) adolescents were more likely to have internalizing problems, while assigned female at birth (AFAB) adolescents were more likely to have externalizing problems.

Summary: The study found that transgender women's perceptions of their mothers were significantly different from those concerning their fathers. Transgender men and women had a positive perception of their relationship with their mothers and a negative perception of their fathers. In terms of parenting practices, women felt that their mothers exhibited more positive practices than their fathers.

Summary: The study found that TGD children who undergo social transition may have better mental health outcomes in adulthood, but these outcomes may deteriorate if they experience gender identity-based harassment during K-12. Therefore, it is the responsibility of clinicians to emphasize the importance of adolescents having safe and affirming social environments.

Summary: This article traces the historical evolution of medical and psychiatric diagnoses related to transgender individuals. From ancient Greek and Roman writings to the development of medical classifications in the nineteenth century, the understanding of transgender people has evolved over time. The distinction between sexual orientation and gender diagnosis started to emerge in the early 1900s and continued to evolve until the modern era.

Summary: This study found that among TGD adults in the United States, 13.1% reported a history of detransition, with 82.5% of those reporting at least one external driving factor, often including family pressure and societal stigma. Individuals with a history of detransition were more likely to be male, have nonbinary gender identities, bisexual sexual orientations, and have unsupportive families.

Summary: This case study describes the successful use of topical minoxidil in inducing facial hair growth in a 17-year-old transgender male who desired facial hair but was initially unable to start testosterone therapy. The treatment resulted in noticeable pigmented facial hair without significant side effects, and also unexpectedly led to an increase in pigmented body hair. The findings suggest that minoxidil may be a useful alternative treatment option for transgender males seeking to enhance facial hair growth.

Summary: In the past decade, there has been a significant increase in adolescents and young adults complaining of gender dysphoria. This increase is believed to be due to a socially contagious syndrome known as Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria (ROGD). This study surveyed parents who believed their AYA children had ROGD and found that the majority of affected youths were natal females. It was also observed that pre-existing mental health issues were common and that the social transition led to a deterioration of AYA children's mental health.

Summary: Exogenous testosterone therapy can lead to erythrocytosis, but the contribution of erythrocytosis to thrombosis in the context of gender-affirming hormonal therapy is unclear. A retrospective study on transgender and non-binary adults receiving testosterone showed that some patients developed elevated levels of hemoglobin and hematocrit, but thromboembolic events and hospitalizations related to erythrocytosis were uncommon.

Summary: The study aimed to describe a population of individuals who experienced gender dysphoria, underwent medical and/or surgical transition, and then detransitioned by various means. A diverse range of reasons for detransition were identified, including comfort with their natal sex, concerns about medical complications, and specific causes for gender dysphoria. The research highlights a lack of comprehensive evaluation by healthcare professionals prior to transition, with only a minority of detransitioned individuals informing their clinicians. More research is needed to understand this population, determine detransition prevalence, address medical and psychological needs, and improve the evaluation and counseling processes prior to transition.

Summary: Empirical evidence on the psychosocial health outcomes of adolescents with GD after puberty suppression and gender-affirming medical interventions is limited. The study found that adolescents receiving gender-affirming interventions showed some improvement in psychosocial health outcomes, but there were still significant differences from the norm. This highlights the need for further longitudinal research on treatment decisions for transgender adolescents.

Summary: This study aims to explore the concentration differences of two cardiac biomarkers in transgender individuals without cardiac disease. The results show that transgender men have significantly higher hs-cTn levels compared to transgender women, while NT-proBNP levels are significantly higher in transgender women. These findings suggest that sex hormones may be the main driving factor of concentration differences in cardiac disease biomarkers between healthy men and women.

Summary: Gender-affirming hormone therapy can impact clinical chemistry analytes, with enzymes showing a shift towards affirmed gender in both estradiol and testosterone cohorts. Creatinine values for transgender cohorts were similar to cisgender men, with no shift towards affirmed gender in the estradiol cohort. The effects on lipids were complex, but there was a clear shift to lower HDL values in the testosterone cohort compared to cisgender women.

Summary: This study aimed to establish reference intervals for commonly measured analytes related to reproductive endocrinology in transgender women. The use of spironolactone was associated with changes in the result distribution of some tests. Immunoassay was found to be sufficient for measuring estradiol and total testosterone in most cases.

Summary: The study found that in transgender men undergoing gender-affirming therapy, immunoassay and mass spectrometry results were clinically equivalent, and reference intervals for cisgender men can be applied to total and free testosterone. However, reference intervals for estradiol, LH, FSH, AMH, and DHEAS differ from those for cisgender men and women, and specific reference intervals for the transmasculine population should be used for interpretation.
