A new inhibitor pigment, cerium tartrate was studied as a pigment in epoxy coatings. The results of release measurements of Ce ions from epoxy coating in 0.05 mol/L NaCI indicate that cerium ions are able to transport through the epoxy coating, which is a key characteristic of inhibitor pigment. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) shows that cerium tartrate is an effective pigment for improving the barrier effect of epoxy coatings on AA2024-T3. The self-healing ability of cerium tartrate in artificial defects was verified by scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET). (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
