Summary: The study demonstrated that TRF significantly improved the morphology of senescent myoblasts and promoted myoblast differentiation. Treatment with TRF increased Ki67 and myogenin expression in senescent myoblasts, suggesting potential benefits for ameliorating regenerative defects during aging.

Summary: This study optimized the ratio of UV filters in kenaf seed oil nanocarrier to develop a sunscreen formulation. The nanocarrier showed high encapsulation efficiency for UV filters and when added to a tocotrienol-rich cream, it exhibited no cytotoxicity and provided both sun protection and cellular antioxidant capacity. The application of nanocarriers in the cream also resulted in significant protein upregulation and downregulation, indicating its potential as a promising delivery system in sunscreen formulations.

Summary: Neurovascular dysfunction can lead to vascular dementia (VaD), the second most common type of dementia. Toxic metals like aluminium can increase the risk of VaD associated with neurovascular dysfunction. The study investigated whether a natural antioxidant derived from palm oil called tocotrienol-rich fraction (TRF) could alleviate aluminium chloride-induced VaD in rats. Results showed that TRF treatment improved memory, reduced brain oxidative stress, improved endothelial function, facilitated neovascularisation process, protected neurons, and improved memory in VaD rats.

Summary: Cellular senescence can be reversed by the small molecule reversine, which can improve the well-known hallmarks of cellular aging in senescent myoblast cells. Reversine activates autophagy and insulin signaling pathway by upregulating AMPK and Akt2, restoring insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake in senescent cells. It also restores the loss of connectivity of glycolysis to the TCA cycle, thus restoring dysfunctional mitochondria and impaired myogenic differentiation potential in senescent myoblasts.

Summary: This study found that oral TRF (100 mg/kg) supplementation for 12 weeks reduces retinal oxidative stress in STZ-induced DR rats, which in turn reduces retinal cell apoptosis and protects retinal morphology. These findings were associated with preservation of the visual-behaviour responses.

Summary: Ageing leads to a gradual decrease in muscle mass and function, but tocotrienol-rich fraction (TRF) supplementation can protect against age-associated chronic diseases and metabolic disorders. This study found that TRF treatment improved muscle metabolomes and metabolic pathways in ageing rats, promoting amino acid synthesis and muscle regeneration.

Summary: This study investigated the beneficial effects of intranasal administration of Tocotrienol-rich fraction (TRF) in a rat model of PAF-induced allergic rhinitis (AR). The results showed that TRF was able to ameliorate the symptoms of AR by reducing inflammation and vascular congestion in the nasal tissues. This beneficial effect may be due to the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-allergic properties of TRF.

Summary: This study investigated the proteomic changes in human neural cells induced by TRF, a palm oil-derived vitamin E fraction, using a label-free LC-MS/MS approach. The results showed that TRF and levodopa, a drug used in Parkinson's disease treatment, regulated the expression of a number of proteins involved in crucial pathways such as ubiquitin-proteasome, calcium signaling, protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondrial pathway, and axonal transport system. Overall, TRF is an important functional food that affects protein expression in human neuronal cells.

Summary: In recent years, drought stress caused by global warming has become a major constraint on agriculture. This study extracted MsTHI1 from alfalfa and demonstrated its beneficial impact on improving the resistance of plants to stress conditions. MsTHI1 enhances drought tolerance by strengthening photosynthesis, regulating the antioxidant defense system, maintaining osmotic homeostasis, and mediating plant signal transduction.

Summary: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) treatment delays decay, loss of firmness, color, flavor, total sugars, total protein, betaine, and ascorbic acid in postharvest goji berries. It also reduces MDA, H2O2, and O-2(-) accumulation and increases the activity of antioxidant enzymes while decreasing LOX quantity. H2S up-regulates the mRNA expression of LDC, DCD, CAT, APX, POD, GR, and SOD, but down-regulates LOX, RBOH-b, and RBOH-e in goji berries.
