Summary: Building trust on a platform can enhance transactions but also brings the risk of disintermediation. The research shows that increasing trust can lead to higher chances of hiring high-quality freelancers, but excessive trust may result in disintermediation, offsetting revenue gains. There are differences in tendencies of clients and freelancers towards disintermediation, and strategies can be implemented to mitigate the tension between trust-building and disintermediation.

Summary: This study reveals that in online freelance marketplaces, buyers attract more bids when they provide moderate task information and concreteness, avoid sharing personal information, and limit emotional intensity. Freelancers' bid success and price premiums increase when they mimic the level of task information and emotional intensity shown by buyers. However, mimicking lack of personal information and concreteness reduces freelancers' success, so freelancers should always be more specific and offer more personal information than buyers. These findings suggest that balancing uncertainty in communication can lead to success for both buyers and freelancers in the gig economy.

Summary: The digital environment, including the Internet and social networks, presents opportunities for digital marketing, but it also poses challenges for collecting and analyzing the vast amount of information on social networks. This research aims to improve the process of filtering personal information provided by users during online registration and identify profiles that are more likely to provide false information. The findings indicate that older men and younger women are more prone to providing incorrect or intentionally forged data. The main motivations for intentionally providing false information are amusement and lack of trust in data privacy and security measures.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has forced college and university faculty to quickly adapt to online courses. In response to concerns about educational quality, many faculty members have chosen to offer synchronous and/or hybrid online courses, which has led to the consideration of using webcams to engage students. However, there are conflicting perspectives on whether webcams should be required in these classes due to concerns about student privacy, stress/anxiety, technological access, family responsibilities, and internet connections. This study examines students' motivations for using or not using webcams during online courses, focusing on the self-determination theory (SDT) framework.

Summary: We studied the matching between buyers and freelancers on a decentralized freelance platform, and found that buyers can attract higher-quality freelancers by exaggerating their quality preferences, but at the cost of a higher price. When buyers cannot renegotiate prices, they will truthfully report their quality preferences; however, when renegotiation is allowed, low-quality buyers may strategically set high prices by deception.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between different entrepreneurial motivations and corporate performance of self-employed micro-businesses operated by women in China. Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) on a sample of 160 female entrepreneurs, the findings show that female entrepreneurs driven by pull motivation prioritize non-financial performance, while those driven by push motivation focus more on financial performance. The analysis also reveals that high levels of motivation among necessity-driven female microbusiness entrepreneurs contribute to achieving high financial performance, while high levels of motivation among opportunity-based female microbusiness entrepreneurs do not significantly influence non-financial performance. The implications of these findings for research and policy development related to Chinese female online microbusinesses are discussed.
