Summary: This study analyzed survey data from Australia to examine alcohol consumption patterns over the life course. The findings suggest that alcohol consumption varies significantly, with higher quantity and frequency of drinking observed in early adulthood, and higher daily consumption and frequency of drinking in middle age.

Summary: This study compared the serum IGF-I dynamics and variability in patients treated with SRLs, surgically cured patients, and healthy controls. The results showed that IGF-I decreased significantly at Day 7 and Day 14 after injection in SRL-treated patients, but remained stable in cured patients and healthy controls. In addition, SRL-treated patients had higher IGF-I variability, especially in nonoptimally controlled patients. The measurement at the farthest distance from SRL injection was the best predictor of optimal disease control.

Summary: Elevated levels of pro-inflammatory marker CRP and lower levels of anti-inflammatory marker IL-10 were found in adolescents with BD during the most severe symptomatic interval, indicating a potential association with the course of BD symptoms. Future larger studies are needed to further investigate these findings.

Summary: The repeated measures cross-over design is a preferred option for optimizing the use of data in rare disease trials. However, there is uncertainty about the best analysis method for within-treatment period and within-subject clustered data in small-sample trials. A simulation study based on a recent trial for epidermolysis bullosa simplex was conducted to compare different analytical models for repeated binary and count data. The choice of methodology depends on the type of outcome and the number of time points the treatment affects.

Summary: Previous research using short-running panel data has found stability in personal culture, such as attitudes and values, in individuals' life courses, concluding that lasting change in personal culture is rare after formative early years. However, recent long-running panel data has shown evidence for changes in personal culture after significant life course transitions. To integrate these conflicting findings, the current study develops and applies a life course adaption model of personal culture, finding strong support for the proposition that individuals change persistently in their personal culture as they move through the life course. These changes are partly dependent on prior biographical experiences and personal culture fluctuates substantially from year to year, with younger birth cohorts experiencing more varied changes.

Summary: This study investigated the association between early life body mass index (BMI) and changes in BMI from early life to adulthood with mammographic breast density in postmenopausal women. The findings suggest that changes in gene expression may play a role in the association.

Summary: This article presents a novel protocol for analyzing repeated measures of online group behavior, taking into account the nested hierarchy of the data and the temporal nature of the behavior. The protocol includes steps for data management and analysis, and provides exemplar R code for replication.

Summary: This paper proposes a multi-hop communication protocol called MRT-LoRa, running on top of LoRa, that supports real-time flows. The MRT-LoRa protocol enables long-range communications while maintaining shorter time on air at each hop, reducing the impact on the duty cycle of each node. The performance of MRT-LoRa is evaluated through OMNeT++ simulations in realistic industrial IoT scenarios.

Summary: This study simulates the development of educational inequalities in metabolic syndrome (MetS) and assesses the impact of intervening on modifiable factors. The findings indicate that educational inequalities lead to increased prevalence and prolonged duration of MetS. Changing smoking behaviors in individuals with low education can have the largest effect in reducing inequalities.

Summary: This study examined the habit trajectories of virus transmission behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings showed that people generally maintained or formed habits of reducing virus transmission, while habits of conducive behaviors gradually degraded. These results suggest that COVID-19 preventive habits may be recoverable in future virus outbreaks.

Summary: This study investigates the extent to which college graduates disengage from employment-incompatible behaviors during the college-to-work transition. The results show that patterns of high-risk drinking behavior may persist even after the transition into full-time employment, and that lower levels of perceived cohort drinking norms and higher levels of mentoring are associated with a higher probability of maturing out of such behaviors, leading to positive outcomes in terms of mental health and work performance.

Summary: During chronic drug use, brain transcriptional neuroadaptation contributes to changes in drug use behavior. The transcription factor CREB has been shown to counteract the rewarding properties of drugs, and zinc finger protein 189 (Zfp189) is identified as a target gene of CREB in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) of mice. By manipulating the CREB-Zfp189 interaction, researchers found that it can increase Zfp189 expression and decrease the reinforcing responses to cocaine. The induction of Zfp189 by CREB in different types of medium spiny neurons also affects their electrophysiological activity and diminishes cocaine-conditioned behaviors.
