Complex samples and spectral interferences in ICP-MS: Evaluation of tandem mass spectrometry for interference-free determination of cadmium, tin and platinum group elements

An analytical method was developed for determination of Cd, Sn, Pd, Pt and Rh in sediments; fertilizer and sludge samples by inductively coupled plasma tandem mass spectrometry (ICP-MS/MS). The performance of ICP-MS/MS using oxygen into the octopole reaction system (ORS3) and MS/MS mode, on mass and shift mass, was evaluated to overcome spectral interferences. Addition and recovery experiments in sediments, fertilizer and sludge samples at three concentration levels, 0.5, 1.0 and 5.0 mu g L-1, were carried out to evaluate the accuracy of the developed procedure. Quantitative recoveries, from 80 to 113% for Cd-112(+), Sn-120(+) and Pd-106(+) were reached using MS/MS in on mass operation mode. For Pt and Rh, recoveries ranged from 81 to 117% by monitoring (PtO+)-Pt-195-O-16 and (RhO+)-Rh-103-O-16 in MS/MS (shift mass mode) with 0.3 mL min(-1) oxygen gas flow rate pressurized into the ORS3. Limits of detection of the developed method were 15, 2.5, 1.8, 9.0 and 9.9 mu g kg(-1) for (RO+)-R-195-O-16, (RhO+)-Rh-103-O-16 Cd-112(+), Sn-120(+), and Pd-106(+), respectively. All analytes were simultaneously interference-free determined by ICP-MS/MS, which demonstrates the potential of this instrumental analytical strategy for Cd, Sn, Pd, Pt, and Rh determination in complex samples. Evaluation of Trace Elements in Marine Biological Tissues by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry After Sample Treatment with Formic Acid

Summary: In this study, formic acid was used for the extraction of Cd and Pb in biological tissues, followed by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF AAS) for their determination. The accuracy and precision of the method were evaluated using certified reference materials, and the limits of quantification were found to be below the regulatory limits. The method was successfully applied to mollusks and fish tissue samples from coastal areas in Brazil, showing concentrations below the allowed limits, except for one mollusk sample. This study presents a promising and cost-effective analytical procedure for the extraction of toxic elements in biological tissues.

Analysis of urine by MIP-OES: challenges and strategies to correct matrix effects

The developed HPLC technique showed high efficiency and minimal environmental impact, successfully identifying ALF in the presence of its degradate. The TLC method provided a stability indicating study for ALF and was determined to be safe, green, and eco-friendly.

Summary: A green, speedy, and handy method for separation and determination of four commonly used food colorants was established using vortex assisted sequential-simultaneous liquid phase micro-extraction (VA-SS-LPME). The method does not require any instrumental chromatographic techniques. The procedure includes sequential separation steps using different extractants and simultaneous UV-vis spectrophotometric determination steps. The method is environmentally friendly and applicable for determination of colorants in food and pharmaceuticals.

Dispersive micro-solid phase extraction based on graphene oxide for the ultrasensitive determination of Cd by slurry sampling microplasma optical emission spectrometry

Summary: For the first time, a dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (D-mu SPE) based on graphene oxide was used for the ultrasensitive determination of Cd. With this method, Cd can be efficiently extracted from a mixture of alkali and alkaline earth metals without the need for an elution step. The combination of D-mu SPE and SAGD OES significantly reduces matrix effects and improves the tolerance of Cd to alkali metals. The method shows simplicity in the measurement system and the commercially available nanosorbent used.

An ultra-sensitive detection of Melamine in milk using Rare-earth doped Graphene Quantum Dots- Synthesis and Optical Spectroscopic approach

Summary: This work proposes a rapid and sensitive spectroscopic method for detecting melamine in food products using rare-earth Terbium-doped Graphene Quantum Dots (Tb-GQDs) synthesized by microwave and simple chemical conjugation methods. The synthesized Tb-GQDs show a spherical shape with a size of approximately 6 nm and a quantum yield of 52%. The maximum detection limit for melamine concentration in milk and milk products is found to be 0.31 μM. The dual emitting Tb-GQDs provide a sensitive and effective platform for real-time detection of melamine in food samples, particularly in milk, and show promising potential in the food industry.

Preparation of monoclonal antibody and establishment of indirect competitive chemiluminescence enzyme immunoassay for sodium pentachlorophenolate

Summary: In this study, a highly sensitive indirect competitive chemiluminescence enzyme immunoassay (icCLEIA) method was developed for the determination of sodium pentachlorophenolate (PCP-Na) and its metabolite pentachlorophenol (PCP). The method showed high specificity and affinity with a detection limit of 0.0032 ng/mL for PCP-Na and 0.0192 ng/mL for PCP. The method had no cross reaction with other chlorophenols compounds except for PCP. The average recoveries in chicken, pork and fish samples were 81.3-105.8% with low coefficient of variation (CV).

Novel stability indicating HPLC method for the quantification of Nirmatrelvir in bulk drugs
