Summary: The study focused on utilizing bacterial cellulose from kombucha tea fermentation as a reinforcing nanofiber network in PMMA matrix, leading to the creation of lightweight, porous nanocomposites with excellent mechanical properties. The nanofibrils in the KBC network had diameters ranging between 20-40 nm and exhibited high crystallinity (>90%). The prepared nanocomposites showed uniform structure, high stiffness, and were homogeneously impregnated with the PMMA matrix, demonstrating the potential of KBC as a template for polymer nanocomposites.

Summary: Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) with different surface properties were incorporated into emulsion-based pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) to modify their properties. CNCs with higher hydrophilicity and surface charge showed less association with latex particles and resulted in nanocomposites with lower strain-softening behavior and improved PSA properties.

Summary: In this study, a new and facile method for preparing CNC/polymer nanocomposite latices via surfactant-free emulsion polymerization was reported. The distribution of CNCs in the latex particles could be controlled by adjusting the reaction procedures, resulting in improved mechanical properties of the nanocomposite latices. Unlike typical Pickering emulsion polymerization, this process does not require intense mechanical shearing and offers a scalable approach for preparing stable CNC/polymer nanocomposite latices that can be used in various applications.

Summary: The study found that with an increase in the content of cationic cassava starch (CCS), the grafting percentage of the polymer film decreased, and the thermal and mechanical properties showed a direct relationship with the CCS content and grafting percentage. Higher grafting percentage improved thermal stability but reduced elongation at break.

Summary: The study focused on the synthesis of polymer nanocomposites with functionalized carbon nanotubes through in situ emulsion polymerization. Characterization techniques such as FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies were used to investigate the chemical structure and drug release capability. The release profile of hydrocortisone in some nanocomposites was found to be influenced by a change in hydrogen bond balance.

Summary: Polyacrylate latexes with uniform particle size and excellent dispersion were successfully synthesized via emulsion copolymerization. The effect of grafting agent type on the residual double bonds of the seed latex was investigated. The PVC/ACR blend prepared by emulsion grafting polymerization reached a brittle-toughness transition at an ACR content of 8 phr, and showed significantly improved impact strength compared to traditional ACR-prepared PVC/ACR blend.

Summary: Diazocine-functionalized initiators were synthesized for controlled radical polymerizations, and their efficiency in polymerizations of methyl acrylate and methacrylate was tested. The initiation of the reactions required high amounts of reducing agents and catalysts. Additionally, violet light irradiation during the reactions caused retardation or termination of the anilide compound.

Summary: Nanocellulosic materials can be used as green materials for property modification in latex polymers, especially cellulose nanocrystals. It was found that the nanocrystals are sensitive to the ionic strength of the aqueous phase in latexes. By adjusting the surfactant-initiator systems, it is possible to successfully incorporate nanocrystals in-situ in emulsion polymerization for stable latex production.

Summary: The synthesis of high-strength and tough polymer nanocomposites has attracted significant interest for industrial applications. In this study, the authors successfully synthesized polymer nanocomposites reinforced with nanodimensional polymeric worms using a simple and environmentally friendly synthesis process. The results showed that the cross-linking of the core-segments significantly influenced the reinforcement efficiency. This research expands the understanding of using PISA-derived worms as reinforcing fillers.

Summary: Coagulative nucleation in the copolymerization of methyl methacrylate-butyl acrylate (MMA-BA) is reported under monomer-starved conditions in latexes with high solid content and low surfactant concentrations. The use of semicontinuous emulsion heterophase polymerization (SEHP) allows the synthesis of latex with high colloidal stability. The study investigates the particle size, surfactant coverage area, particle coagulation rate, and other parameters during the copolymerization process.

Summary: A new method for the synthesis of nanofibrillar cellulose/polystyrene composite is proposed, which involves ultrasonic treatment of styrene emulsion in cellulose-water solution. This method eliminates the need for additional heating and significantly reduces the synthesis time compared to previous methods. Comprehensive analysis indicates that the mechanical, physical, and biodegradable properties of the composite obtained by the ultrasonic method are comparable to those obtained by the conventional thermal method.

Summary: In this study, methyl methacrylate/methacrylic acid copolymers were synthesized by precipitation copolymerization using AIBN as the initiator. The effects of pressure, initiation concentration, MA concentration, and water content on the synthesis were investigated. The results showed that the concentration of MA or AIBN greatly influenced the molecular weight, with a maximum of 213 kDa. The morphology of the samples exhibited certain degree of agglomeration, and most samples were obtained as free-flowing powder with numerous spherical bulges.

Summary: This study focuses on the detailed characterization of the molecular structure and dilute solution properties of highly dense star-like polymers of poly(methyl methacrylate) and poly(n-butyl methacrylate). The comparison of refractive index increment with corresponding linear homopolymers was conducted. The prepared polymers were characterized using size exclusion chromatography, multi-angle light scattering detector, and online viscometer. The obtained data allowed for the determination of arm distribution, average number of arms per molecule, and molar mass dependency of the draining factor. The relation between the number of arms per molecule and molar mass was estimated and compared with true values.

Summary: Improving water-based polymer's properties using silicon compounds has gained significant attention. In this study, a novel siloxane-based crosslink agent was synthesized and used for emulsion copolymerization of methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate, and acrylic acid. The incorporation of the crosslinker led to increased particle size and decreased viscosity of the latexes, as well as improved electrostatic stability. The crosslinking agent also affected the decomposition temperature and residual weight fraction of the copolymer.

Summary: Numerical simulations showed that statistical copolymers with 1:1 BA/MMA composition have the highest contribution of alternating sequences, while batch ATRP of a 1:1 BA/MMA mixture generates gradient copolymers with diminished fraction of alternating sequences. A method for preparing statistical BA/MMA copolymers with the highest fraction of alternating sequences through normal ATRP copolymerization with MMA feeding was proposed to maximize the amount of alternating sequences in the copolymers.
