Summary: Background: Kidney stone disease is common and can lead to complications in kidney transplant recipients. This study found that approximately 2% of kidney transplant recipients were diagnosed with a kidney stone in the first 3 years after transplantation. Risk factors for kidney stone events included a history of kidney stones and longer dialysis vintage.

Summary: In this study, the changes in glucose metabolism after kidney transplantation were investigated. It was found that some patients with pre-transplant diabetes experienced diabetes remission one year after transplantation. The newly diagnosed diabetes before transplantation and baseline insulinogenic index (IGI(30)) were associated with diabetes remission.

Summary: The study found higher mortality rates associated with COVID-19 among waitlisted kidney transplant candidates and recipients in the United States in 2020. 11% of deaths among waitlisted candidates and 16% of deaths among active transplant recipients were attributed to COVID-19. Additionally, there was higher overall mortality in 2020 among waitlisted candidates (24%) compared to kidney transplant recipients (20%).

Summary: After 1 year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the agrifood market in the United States faced disruptions but significant adjustments and support from farmers, processors, distributors, and government helped mitigate the impact. The economy-wide stimulus package included substantial support for farmers, payments under the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, and expansion of nutrition assistance programs for low-income households. It is speculated that the pandemic will have long-lasting effects on planning and social policy in the US economy, but the basic structure of agricultural production and distribution is expected to remain unchanged.

Summary: Analysis of 30 years of data shows a significant improvement in short-term graft survival after heart transplantation, a trend that remains significant even after adjusting for population changes. Despite an increase in the prevalence of high-risk population characteristics, graft survival has improved significantly.

Summary: This study is the first to demonstrate similar graft survival and function in DCD kidneys compared with DBD kidneys after 35 years of follow-up. DCD grafts are a valuable resource and can be utilized in the same way as DBD grafts.

Summary: This study analyzed the factors associated with changes in kidney function and incidence of proteinuria in living kidney donors. Results showed that older age, male gender, black race, and higher body mass index were linked to greater decline in kidney function and incidence of proteinuria. Early postdonation assessment of kidney function and proteinuria may help to identify donors at greater risk of end-stage renal disease.

Summary: Overall, the majority of kidney transplant recipients exhibit normal bone turnover at 1-year post-transplant, while a significant subset show low bone turnover and high bone turnover is rare. Interventions targeting vitamin D deficiency and hypophosphatemia may help improve bone health after transplantation.
