Summary: This study found that Maackiain, a natural compound from Sophora flavescens, protects against sepsis by reducing organ injury, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Maackiain activates the AMPK/Nrf2/HO-1 pathway, leading to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Inhibition of this pathway abolishes the protective effects of Maackiain.

Summary: A study found that carnosic acid (CA) can inhibit the oxidative damage, apoptosis, and pyroptosis induced by doxorubicin (DOX) in the heart, thereby protecting the heart. This study suggests that CA could be a potential therapeutic strategy in the prevention of DOX-associated cardiomyopathy.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of quercetin (QUE) against iron overload-induced osteoporosis and its potential molecular mechanisms. The results showed that QUE can attenuate oxidative stress damage induced by iron overload by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway, thus protecting bone health.

Summary: The study demonstrates that CLIC1 acts as a sensor of oxidative stress in endothelial cells, and its regulation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway can protect cells from oxidative damage. In addition, inhibition of CLIC1 activity can reduce oxidative stress injury and promote antioxidant effects.

Summary: In this study, it was found that pregnane X receptor (PXR) is involved in the recovery of motor function after spinal cord injury (SCI) by regulating the NRF2/HO-1 pathway. Activation of PXR suppressed the NRF2/HO-1 pathway, while PXR deficiency activated this pathway and improved motor function in mice after SCI.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the melatonin receptor agonist agomelatine can protect against acute pancreatitis induced by cadmium by preventing inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis, and by modulating the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. Agomelatine enhanced the antioxidant capacity through the activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway, while reducing inflammation and cellular damage.

Summary: In this study, the protective effects of beta-patchoulene (beta-PAE) on hepatic ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury were investigated. The results demonstrated that beta-PAE could alleviate tissue damage and inflammation induced by hepatic I/R injury, and it exerted its effects by modulating the balance between Nrf2/HO-1 and NF-kappa B pathways.

Summary: Opioid receptor agonists have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on microglia, as shown in this study. The selected agonists DAMGO, DADLE, and U-50488 were found to protect microglial cells from lipopolysaccharide-induced oxidative stress by affecting ROS production, NADPH synthesis, and glucose uptake. These beneficial effects were associated with the upregulation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. The findings suggest that opioids can preserve mitochondrial function and eliminate ROS in microglia through a Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway-dependent mechanism.

Summary: In this study, the effect of Ech on osteoarthritis (OA) was investigated. Results showed that Ech enhanced the viability of rat chondrocytes, repressed inflammatory response and extracellular matrix degradation, and alleviated oxidative stress. Mechanically, Ech achieved these effects by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway. Additionally, Ech showed protective effects in vivo in a rat model of OA.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of BACH1 in the pathophysiological process of acute lung injury (ALI) with a focus on ferroptosis. The results showed that BACH1 expression was increased upon exposure to LPS, and its deletion exerted anti-inflammatory effects and reduced oxidative stress damage and ferroptosis induced by LPS. Mechanistically, the beneficial effects of BACH1 inhibition were mediated through the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway.
