Summary: The effect of platelet-rich plasma on nerve regeneration in a rabbit model of sciatic nerve small-gap defects with preserved epineurium was investigated. Results showed that platelet-rich plasma with specific concentrations of whole blood platelets promoted repair of sciatic nerve injury. Proteomics analysis revealed that platelet-rich plasma affects angiogenesis and intracellular ubiquitin levels in the regeneration process.

Summary: Studies have shown that Lipin1 is involved in the pathogenesis of DPN, playing a role in regulating autophagy and maintaining normal peripheral nerve conduction function. Upregulation of Lipin1 can ameliorate autophagic disorders and pathological changes in nerves, leading to an increase in nerve conduction velocity in DPN rats.

Summary: Peripheral nerve injuries are the most common type of nerve trauma. A new repair technique using PEG to fuse the membranes of severed axons has shown promising results in terms of immediate reinervation and improved behavioral recovery. This study investigates the topographical organization of axons contributing to the sciatic nerve, finding consistent locations of specific axon populations. The knowledge of this organization can aid in the accurate realignment of axons during repair, enhancing recovery outcomes.

Summary: This study investigated the binding characteristics of the water-soluble thiadicarbocyanine dye DTC with BSA using spectroscopic techniques and molecular docking methods. The experimental results showed that DTC quenched the fluorescence intensity of BSA and altered its secondary structure. The binding was found to be driven by hydrophobic forces. Molecular docking validated the experimental findings and revealed a free binding energy release of -7.37 kcal/mol. This research provides insights into the interaction between water-soluble DTC dye and biological molecules.

Summary: Recent research highlights the beneficial effects of hypoxia-preconditioned adipose-derived multipotent stem/progenitor cells (ADSPCs) in peripheral nerve regeneration. The study investigated the use of a custom-made fibrin conduit seeded with hypoxic pre-conditioned ADSPCs for autologous sciatic nerve graft in rats. Compared to other treatment modes, the hypoxic pre-conditioned group showed faster functional regeneration, increased axon outgrowth/branching and density, remyelination, and reduced connective tissue area. Further studies are needed to explore the cellular mechanism and potential clinical applications.

Summary: Thin film coatings with potent antibacterial properties are widely used in medical devices, frequently touched surfaces, and food packaging. However, achieving antibacterial performance under both light and dark conditions remains a challenge. In this study, we successfully prepared AgBr-coated ZnO nanorod thin film architecture using a unique surfactant-mediated solution-phase spin-coating approach. The resulting structures showed dual functionality as antimicrobial agents and photosensitizers, effectively enhancing the visible-light photodisinfection efficacy of ZnO nanorods. The concentration of the surfactant-based precursor solution could be modulated to control the AgBr content. Additionally, components like urea and lactic acid were found to enhance the photocatalytic efficiency of the structures.
