Summary: The porous Fe-30Mn biodegradable scaffolds fabricated by SLM exhibited mechanical adaptability, in vitro and long-term in vivo biocompatibility, and long-term in vivo osseointegration performance during 48 weeks in vivo degradation. This suggests that they could be a reliable and practical alternative for repairing load-bearing bone defects.

Summary: Osteoporotic fracture, a serious complication of osteoporosis, is difficult to repair due to the imbalance between osteogenesis and bone destruction. This study successfully fabricated 3D-printed biodegradable magnesium alloy scaffolds with a zoledronic acid-loaded ceramic composite coating. The coating reduced the degradation rate of the scaffolds and achieved a slow release of drugs. The degradation products of the drug-loaded coating promoted osteogenic differentiation and inhibited bone resorption. Compared to uncoated scaffolds, the drug-coated scaffolds showed improved healing rates and quality of osteoporotic bone defects. This study provides a new method for repairing osteoporotic bone defects using functional materials.

Summary: Mandibular tissue engineering aims to develop synthetic substitutes for critical size defects in the mandible, and scaffold design and fabrication using additive manufacturing techniques have become the focus of research efforts. This review discusses scaffolds made with additive manufacturing techniques in mandibular tissue engineering applications, including their chemical composition, structural properties, and strategies to promote osteogenesis and vascularization. In vivo studies comparing new bone formation, defect dimensions, and animal models are also reviewed.

Summary: The study found that co-electrospun samples had better alignment and larger fiber diameters and pore area than sequential samples. Sequential scaffolds had higher static permeability while co-electrospun samples showed higher hydrophilicity. Gelatin mass losses were less in co-electrospun samples, promoting cellular functions.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the changes in the pharyngeal airway after mono- and bimaxillary orthognathic surgery in patients with skeletal malocclusion. The results showed that mandibular setback surgery resulted in a decrease in pharyngeal airway volume, while maxillary advancement surgery led to an increase in pharyngeal airway volume. Maxillary and mandibular advancement surgeries had the greatest impact on increasing pharyngeal volume.
