Summary: This study aimed to fractionate the complex exopolysaccharide (EPS) from a medicinal fungus based on molecular weight and found that the lower molecular weight fraction exhibited higher anti-inflammatory activity. The identified EPS-LM-1 consists of mannose, glucose, and galactose residues and significantly inhibited the lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory responses, making it a promising candidate for anti-inflammation therapy.

Summary: The spore concentration and mycelial biomass of strain JMF-01 were significantly affected by factors such as the primary inoculum density, initial pH, and medium-to-flask ratio. After optimization, the highest mycelial biomass reached 0.35g, and the highest spore concentration reached 6.49 x 10(8) blastospores/mL. Compared to the unoptimized conditions, the optimized submerged culture showed a 3.46-fold increase in mycelial biomass and a 2.06-fold increase in spore concentration. The optimized submerged culture exhibited high pathogenicity against Myzus persicae, with a mortality rate of 95%.

Summary: This study elucidates the diverse functions of phospholipase C in Arthrobotrys oligospora, including its role in the development of hyphae, spores, and cell nuclei, responses to stress, formation of traps, and predation of nematodes. The study also highlights the involvement of phospholipase C in the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites and regulation of trap morphogenesis in nematode-trapping fungi.

Summary: Three new humulane-type sesquiterpenoids and three known compounds were isolated from an endophytic fungus derived from Carica papaya leaves. The compounds showed significant inhibition of hepatic glucose production induced by glucagon, with mechanisms involving cAMP accumulation suppression. Determination of their structures and absolute configurations were accomplished through NMR and HRESIMS analysis.

Summary: Fractionation of extracts from the marine-derived fungus Paecilomyces sp. 7A22 led to the isolation of harzialactone A (HA), a compound previously found in fungi inhabiting marine environments. Analysis showed that HA exhibited significant activity against promastigotes forms of Leishmania amazonensis and moderate activity against intracellular amastigotes. These findings suggest that HA could be a potential compound for future studies on natural products with activity against Leishmania spp., and further support the idea that marine-derived fungi are a promising source of antiparasitic natural products.

Summary: This article reports a relatively young class of fungal metabolites, macrocyclic alkaloids with a cyclopenta[b]fluorene ring system, which were first discovered in 2013. The structures of these compounds were identified by analyzing high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry data and one-dimensional and two-dimensional NMR spectra. The relative and absolute configurations of these alkaloids were determined through various spectroscopic techniques. These compounds showed cytotoxic activity against human cancer cell lines.

Summary: Eleven new pyridone alkaloids and three new tetramic acids were isolated from a marine-derived fungus. The structures and absolute configurations were determined through various analyses. Intriguingly, some of the pyridone alkaloids exhibited interconversions between hydroxy and methoxy groups at C-4 in acidic MeOH solution, and OH-4 could be replaced by various substituent groups in acidic aqueous solution. Additionally, several compounds showed moderate inhibitory effects on NO production in LPS-induced macrophages.

Summary: Three new cyclopeptides were isolated from the culture broth of Cladobotryum varium, including one with potent autophagy-inducing activity. New conditions were established for determining the absolute configurations of Ile residues, and NMR chemical shift prediction and chemical synthesis were used to determine the sequence of Phe residues. Noncovalent interactions were shown to be significant in accurately calculating stable conformers for peptides with multiple aromatic rings.

Summary: The utility of fungi in the biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles is impressive due to the production of biomolecules with minimal toxic residuals. This study found that silver nanoparticles synthesized from wasp nest fungus at different pHs were more prominent at pH 6. The nanoparticles had diverse antimicrobial activities against various bacterial strains and Candida albicans. The combination of AgNPs with methanol solvent extract showed enhanced inhibitory effects.

Summary: In this study, the first siderophore, lysochelin, and its biosynthetic gene cluster were identified from Lysobacter enzymogenes. It was found that lysochelin, along with antifungal compounds HSAF and its analogues, are crucial for the disease control activity and survival of Lysobacter under oxidative stresses caused by excess iron. The production of these molecules is greatly affected by iron concentration.
