Summary: The study found a significant correlation between depressive states and subjective ADHD symptoms. The higher the rate of improvement in depressive symptoms, the lower the frequency of positive ADHD screening by ASRS. Caution should be exercised when using self-report scales for diagnostic evaluation of comorbid ADHD in a primary care setting.

Summary: This study evaluated the prevalence and major comorbidities of ADHD using different operational definitions. The results showed that the prevalence of ADHD in 9 to 10-year-old children was approximately 3.5%. The study also tested the utility of operational definitions against genetic and cognitive correlates, finding that children with a higher polygenic load had an increased chance of having ADHD.

Summary: This study investigated brain structural abnormalities in ADHD patients without comorbidity, using MRI images. The results showed that ADHD patients had more regional gray matter in the bilateral thalamus compared to controls, with this change mainly linked to the iADHD subtype. Additionally, the volume of the right thalamus may be relevant to inattentive symptoms in iADHD.

Summary: This study examined the rates of comorbid ADHD and SUD/AUD using a nationally representative dataset and found a much lower prevalence of ADHD among SUD/AUD patients compared to established estimates. This indicates a need for further research on the prevalence of ADHD within acute care and highlights the importance of ADHD-focused education for improving patient treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to differentiate participants diagnosed with MDD, ADHD, comorbid MDD + ADHD, and healthy controls using common symptom measures and cognitive dysfunction. The findings showed that all patient groups exhibited clinically relevant levels of ADHD symptomatology, executive dysfunction, and diminished cognitive performances in the domain of attention. Discriminant function analysis based on self-reported symptoms of MDD, ADHD, and executive dysfunction correctly classified all healthy controls and patients diagnosed with ADHD or MDD to a relatively good extent.

Summary: Childhood attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a risk factor for the development of substance abuse and substance use disorders (SUD) in adolescence and (early) adulthood. ADHD and SUD often co-occur in treatment-seeking adolescents, complicating diagnosis and treatment. Limited evidence suggests that stimulant treatment may prevent SUD development, high-dose stimulant treatment could be effective for ADHD and SUD comorbidity.

Summary: This study investigated income-related disparities in cancer screening services in individuals aged 40 years or over in Korea using KNHANES data from 2013 to 2019. The results showed a significant gap in the utilization of cancer screening between different income groups, with lower income individuals having lower rates of participation. Policymakers should focus on increasing awareness and education to improve cancer screening uptake in lower-income populations.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of prolonged exposure to high concentrations of PM2.5 on mortality risk. The results showed that for every 10ug/m3 increase in PM2.5 concentration, there was a 0.33% increase in all-cause mortality, a 0.47% increase in respiratory disease mortality, and a 0.26% increase in cardiovascular disease mortality. The risk of all-cause mortality significantly increased when exposure to high PM2.5 concentrations persisted for more than 4 days.

Summary: The potential health effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation on children have raised concerns among the public due to the vulnerability of developing children. Through a systematic review of epidemiological studies and a brief review of experimental animal or mechanistic studies, we evaluated the evidence on possible adverse health effects, including cancer, birth outcomes, neurocognitive development, and behavioral problems. Currently, there is insufficient evidence to determine the adverse effects, although recent large-scale animal studies have shown carcinogenic findings. Further well-designed future studies are needed to generate high-quality scientific evidence regarding the potential harmful effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation exposure in children.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the characteristics of walk-in patients who visited a dental university hospital more than once (returning patient). The results showed that walk-in visits were more likely to occur in men, patients aged 20-39 years, patients residing in Seoul, and hospital employees or their family members. Walk-in visits were more likely to take place in the morning between 8:00 and 9:59 and on Saturdays and Mondays. The odds of walk-in visits differed depending on the treatment department and diagnosis, and return patients were more likely to have walk-in visits for treatments not covered by insurance.
