Summary: The study found that female cancer patients in the cohort had improved survival rates, increased activation of immune system pathways, and enrichment of EGFR alterations. The results suggest that enhancing the immune response in female cancer patients may improve the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Summary: An oral sorbent that can remove NH4+ within the small intestine of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients has been investigated. The study found that a gas-permeable, hydrophobic coating called perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (FOTS) attached to a tetraethyl orthosilicate-coated ZrP surface showed promising results in terms of NH4+ removal and selectivity. The FOTS coating exhibited hydrophobic properties and increased NH4+ removal by 53% compared to uncoated ZrP. The FOTS-coated ZrP also maintained its NH4+ removal capacity and selectivity after exposure to low-pH conditions, making it a potential oral sorbent for ESKD patients.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the role of sarcopenia as a predictor of short- and long-term outcomes in patients surgically treated for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). The results demonstrated that pre- and post-operative sarcopenia strongly affected the risk of post-operative complications and long-term survival after surgery for MPM. This finding will help clinicians to better select patients and provide rehabilitation programs before surgery.

Summary: Malignant ovarian germ cell tumors (MOGCTs) in Korean women demonstrated a slight increase in prevalence, with a more pronounced growth among patients aged <19 years. Patients with dysgerminoma showed significantly higher survival rates compared to those with non-dysgerminoma. Following MOGCT diagnosis, the risk of developing subsequent malignancies doubled compared with the general population.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed clinical data of 32 patients with cancer-associated sarcoid-like reaction (SLR). The study found no evidence of SLR progressing to systemic sarcoidosis during follow-up, and most lesions decreased or did not change. For patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), SLR was not associated with overall survival or disease-free survival.

Summary: This study found that patients with ureteral obstruction caused by non-urologic malignancies had poor overall survival, but those who received chemotherapy after urinary diversion had a significant survival benefit. For patients with poor prognostic factors, the option of no intervention should be considered.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the long-term effects of telemedicine on mortality and technique failure in peritoneal dialysis patients. Summary: In this study, AF patients with CKD treated with vitamin K antagonists were found to have significantly higher rates of major adverse events in the real-world cohort compared to the AMADEUS trial cohort. The risk of adverse events, including major bleeding and all-cause mortality, remained significantly higher in the real-world cohort even after multivariable adjustment.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of renal function on anticoagulation control and outcomes in atrial fibrillation patients. It found that deteriorated renal function had a negative impact on anticoagulation control and moderate renal failure was an independent risk factor for increased risk of stroke, major bleeding, and all-cause mortality in patients with AF.

Summary: A survey conducted in 1997 revealed a lack of standardisation of blood pressure measurement and varying criteria for diagnosing hypertension in paediatricians. A new online survey in 2021 compared clinical practice and found increased nurse involvement and greater use of technology. However, fewer paediatricians are responding to high diastolic pressures compared to twenty years ago.
