Summary: Analysis showed significant differences in bacterial structures between NH and PM implant groups, with higher relative abundance of Actinomyces and Streptococcus in NH samples. Genera Fusobacterium and Prevotella were identified as potential biomarkers for peri-implant mucositis. Moreover, gram-negative anaerobic bacteria, including Porphyromonas and Prevotella, were more prevalent in samples from patients with periodontitis history, indicating higher risk for peri-implant mucositis.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy of a gel containing propolis extract, nanovitamin C, and nanovitamin E as an adjuvant to mechanical debridement in the treatment of peri-implant mucositis. After 1 month of treatment, 26.1% of patients in the test group achieved complete resolution of PM, with significant improvements in oral health indicators and microbial parameters compared to the control group. Further long-term clinical trials are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This study investigated the healing of soft tissue after clinical probing in a situation of peri-implant mucositis. The results showed that clinical probing may lead to apical migration of the junctional epithelium in peri-implant mucositis, accompanied by inflammation and cell proliferation.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of various restorative and prosthetic parameters on the health of peri-implant tissues following dental implant placement. Results showed that good crown status was associated with lower PPD values, less plaque accumulation, and reduced bleeding on probing. Gingival color and radiographic findings were also significantly associated with crown status.

Summary: This study evaluated the incidence of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis in fully edentulous patients with implant-supported maxillary overdentures during a 10-year follow-up period. The results showed that after 10 years, three out of five patients experienced peri-implant mucositis and one out of five patients experienced peri-implantitis. Despite these incidence rates, the survival rate of the implants remained high.

Summary: This clinical trial evaluated the effects of a multispecies probiotic as an adjunct to mechanical debridement on changes in bleeding on probing in edentulous patients with peri-implant mucositis. The results showed that the probiotic group had a higher prevalence of restored peri-implant health and lower bleeding on probing at 24 weeks compared to the placebo group.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the efficacy of oral probiotics in managing chemotherapy-induced adverse reactions. The results showed that oral probiotic use significantly decreased the risk of chemotherapy-induced diarrhea and oral mucositis. Interestingly, the beneficial effects of probiotics were found to be statistically significant only in Asian patients. Furthermore, the more species of bacteria they took, the lower the incidences of the adverse reactions occurred. However, more clinical trials are needed to further verify the efficacy of oral probiotic use against adverse reactions, and the species and number of probiotics should be optimized and standardized prior to clinical applications.

Summary: The use of zirconia for implants and abutments has become more prevalent in implant dentistry as an alternative to titanium implants, but peri-implant disease can still affect them. The Er,Cr:YSGG laser has shown promise as a treatment modality, effectively removing bacteria from zirconia discs and promoting fibroblast attachment. The study found no statistical significance in surface roughness among treatment groups, but significant differences in bacteria decontamination and cell attachment, favoring the laser group.

Summary: The relationship between the glycemic-lowering effects of sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors and their impact on kidney and cardiovascular outcomes remains uncertain. This study analyzed the effects of canagliflozin on hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) in individuals with diabetes and the mediation of glycemic control on treatment outcomes. The results showed that the glycemic effects of canagliflozin were attenuated at lower estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), but its effects on kidney and cardiovascular outcomes were preserved.

Summary: This study compares two approaches to analyzing time series data and highlights their advantages, disadvantages, and implementation considerations. By analyzing electronic health records of an educational program for Australian primary care physicians, the study estimates the reduction in antibiotic prescribing and concludes that differing results between the two approaches are driven by divergent explanatory and outcome series trends.

Summary: This study analyzed the 15-year incidence of driving cessation and its associated vision-related risk factors in an older Australian population-based cohort. The cumulative incidence of driving cessation was 20.7% among the 2379 participants, with women more likely to cease driving than men. Cataract and age-related macular degeneration were found to be associated with increased risk of cessation, while better visual acuity at baseline helped prolong driving.

Summary: Currently, periodontal risk assessment is used in the first visit to identify high-risk individuals for disease incidence or progression, and also in patient monitoring after treatment and enrollment in a supportive care program. Some limitations of the current case definition of periodontitis call for different risk assessment tools in clinical practice, which have shown higher accuracy in predicting tooth loss during supportive care. Validated periodontal risk assessment tools can improve adherence to preventive and treatment protocols, oral hygiene performance, and tailored supportive care. Periodontal risk assessment is also informative for the risk of peri-implantitis in patients undergoing implant placement or dental implant rehabilitation.

Summary: Missing data in health economics and outcomes research studies can lead to bias and inappropriate policies. This systematic literature review found that some studies did not justify their approach to handling missing data and only used a single method without sensitivity analysis. It highlights the importance of considering the missingness mechanism and conducting sensitivity analyses in planning, analyzing, and reporting health economics and outcomes research studies.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the associations between vision impairment and risk of motor vehicle crash involvement. The findings suggest that visual field defects, contrast sensitivity decline, and visual acuity loss may increase crash risk, while cataract surgery can reduce MVC risk. Detecting vision problems and providing appropriate treatment are critical for road safety.
