Summary: Status epilepticus is a life-threatening neurological emergency in childhood, particularly in the first 5 years of life, with high mortality and morbidity rates. Current treatments for convulsive status epilepticus in children may be delayed and inadequate. This study summarizes the current knowledge on treatment options and proposes a treatment algorithm. Benzodiazepines are recommended as first-line treatment, and for refractory status epilepticus, no superiority was found in fosphenytoin, levetiracetam, or phenobarbital. Limited data is available on third-line treatments for refractory status epilepticus lasting >30 min. The proposed algorithm aims to address treatment delay and reduce potential permanent neuronal damage.

Summary: The occurrence of early and late PNSE was associated with specific neurosurgical pathologies and increased mortality. These findings provide a foundation for validating clinical and perioperative risk factors prospectively and help identify patients who require heightened diagnostic suspicion for PNSE.

Summary: Status Epilepticus (SE) is a neurological emergency characterized by abnormally sustained seizures, which can result in long-term consequences for the brain. However, the specific effects of different types of SE on brain pathology and long-term deficits in patients are still not clearly understood.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of duration of anesthetic constant rate infusion (CRI) on outcome and length of hospital stay in dogs with refractory seizure activity of different etiology. There was no statistically significant difference found in outcomes between the experimental group and the control group. Shorter duration of anesthetic CRI did not have a clear superiority on outcome or length of hospital stay in dogs with refractory seizure activity of different etiology.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the risk of long-term seizure recurrence after status epilepticus (SE) and the potential risk factors associated with it. The results showed that progressive symptomatic etiology, delay in treatment initiation, and superrefractory SE were associated with a higher risk of seizure recurrence. On the other hand, older patients and acute symptomatic etiology had a lower risk of seizure recurrence.

Summary: Status epilepticus (SE) is a medical emergency that can lead to long-term consequences such as neuronal death and impaired neuronal networks. Inflammation has been shown to contribute to seizure onset and recurrence in SE. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of neuroinflammation is crucial for improving SE treatment. Currently, the main approach to SE treatment is the use of medication for symptom control.

Summary: This study demonstrated the accuracy of CTP in identifying non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE), potentially serving as part of a pragmatic diagnostic workflow. Summary: This study found that microglia play a role in the hyperactivity of auditory pathways after status epilepticus. The researchers discovered that microglia reduce inhibitory synapses on MGB relay neurons, leading to auditory dysfunction. Local removal of microglia from the MGB can suppress neural hyperactivity and improve auditory discrimination.

Summary: This case describes the first reported instance of ovarian teratoma causing ANRE, which was terminated with VNS to stop nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE). The temporal correlation suggests that VNS significantly altered the natural history of the patient's NCSE-ANRE. As more data is collected and VNS treatment is more liberally used to treat NCSE, especially in cases of ANRE, stronger layers of evidence will emerge.

Summary: The finger drop sign is proposed as a new clinical variant of acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN) based on immunological and radiological evidence. This unique syndrome is characterized by sustained weakness of the finger extensors and a distinctive pattern of abnormal signals mainly in muscles innervated by the posterior interosseous nerve on limb MRI. Testing showed positivity for immunoglobulin G antibody against ganglioside complex of GM1 and phosphatidic acid in all patients. Understanding the pathophysiology of this syndrome may provide insights into antiganglioside-antibody-mediated axonal injury in Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Summary: This study aimed to identify and characterize Miller Fisher syndrome (MFS) following COVID-19 vaccination. The findings suggest that MFS following COVID-19 vaccination has different pathophysiology compared to MFS following COVID-19 infection and Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) following COVID-19 vaccination. Considering the rare incidence and diagnostic challenges of this neurological syndrome, it should be recognized as an adverse event of COVID-19 vaccination.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the initial trigger of peripheral neuropathies (PNs) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The automated nerve excitability test (NET) was conducted on 20 COPD patients, and it was found that COPD patients exhibited abnormal nerve excitability, characterized by smaller threshold changes in the mid-depolarizing phase and a prominent superexcitability in the recovery cycle. There were no significant differences in sensory nerve excitability between COPD patients and control groups.

The reported discriminative performance of the models varied, and no model showed consistently low bias risk and clinical applicability in all domains.
