Summary: Prosthodontists in Saudi Arabia show a relatively positive attitude towards oral cancer screening, but have lower rates of examination at recall visits and providing smoking cessation advice. Most prosthodontists believe they can detect oral cancer themselves, but barriers such as training, confidence, time, and financial incentives still exist.

Summary: Oral cancer is a critical health issue, with the majority of new cases occurring in Asia. Various factors, such as genetics and lifestyle, are closely associated with its occurrence and progression. Early signs of oral cancer include oral lesions, genetic mutations, and viral infections. Lesions with dysplastic features have a high risk of malignancy, and OPMDs have a high prevalence in South Asian countries. Early detection, prevention, and treatment of OPMDs are crucial.

Summary: Oral potentially malignant disorders are mucosal lesions and conditions with a higher risk of cancer development. Unfortunately, these disorders are often diagnosed late due to lack of attention in routine dental practice and a limited number of specialized oral medicine centers. This report discusses the DoctOral experience, which offers a smartphone-based decision support tool for healthcare professionals, allowing for immediate examination and diagnosis of oral lesions through interactive decision trees. The DoctOral mobile app has successfully revolutionized oral pathology by serving as an interactive platform for dental students and professionals to recognize and diagnose oral lesions.

Summary: The prevalence of oral potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer is increasing in low- and middle-income countries. A lack of resources for population screening in remote areas leads to delayed detection of these disorders, resulting in higher mortality and poor quality of life. This study explores the use of artificial intelligence and digital imaging for detecting these disorders using smartphone-captured oral cavity images. The proposed model shows promising results in identifying suspicious and non-suspicious oral lesions, and can assist in early detection and referral for treatment of these disorders.

Summary: Managing patients with oral potentially malignant disorders is challenging due to the lack of understanding of natural history and validated predictive markers. Evidence-based health promotion is not widely embraced, and research on medical interventions often suffers from methodologic flaws and lack of focus on patient quality of life. Global networks with well-characterized patient populations are needed for better intervention trials.

Summary: Oral cancer is the most common type of head and neck cancer worldwide, with early detection leading to high survival rates. However, lack of public awareness and delays in referrals contribute to late-stage diagnoses. This study explores the use of deep learning and computer vision techniques for automated detection and classification of oral potentially malignant disorders, offering a low-cost and non-invasive tool to improve screening processes and detection outcomes.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the evidence on the therapeutic effects of vitamin supplementation for oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) and oral cancer (OC). The results showed that vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B, and vitamin D all had therapeutic benefits. The research on oral cancer was extensive, with a focus on oral lichen planus and oral leukoplakia among the OPMDs. However, standardizing the study design and outcomes is needed to enhance future research.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of different methods for early detection of oral cavity cancer, such as conventional oral examination, light-based detection, remote screening, and biomarker analysis. The results indicate that caution should be exercised in screening for oral cancer, as there is insufficient evidence to support the use of screening programs.

Summary: Oral cancer poses a significant challenge to healthcare systems, particularly in Malaysia. This study aimed to determine the cost of treating oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) and oral cancer from a public healthcare provider's perspective. The research found that the cost of treating oral cancer is significantly higher than that of OPMD, with surgical care and personnel costs being the main contributors to the higher expenditure.

Summary: This study investigated the contemporary practice of restorative dentistry among dentists in Jordan and their decision-making process, revealing common trends in treating irreversible pulpitis, severely damaged teeth, and performing smile makeovers. It also found a higher implementation of evidence-based dentistry in clinical decision-making in Prosthetic Dentistry compared to Endodontics, indicating a need to bridge the gap between evidence-based data and clinical practice.

Summary: The Syrian crisis has had a significant impact on the oral health status of refugees. This study aimed to analyze the pattern of tooth extraction among Syrian refugees in the Zaatari camp and identify associated sociodemographic factors. The results showed that dental caries was the leading cause of tooth extraction, with molar teeth being the most frequently extracted. Older age, smoking, lower education level, poor oral hygiene, and male gender were all associated with a higher incidence of tooth extractions.

Summary: The majority of head and neck tumours are squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), and recent advancements have provided evidence for their genetic origins. Identifying prognostic biomarkers in oral SCC is crucial for predicting tumour behaviour and planning treatment. Many studies have shown that combining chemotherapy with radiotherapy improves treatment outcomes and overall survival. Biomarkers such as p53, cyclin D1, and EGFR play a pivotal role in tumour development and progression. This systematic review aims to analyze the prognostic significance of the expression of p53, cyclin D1, and EGFR in advanced oral SCC after chemoradiation therapy.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the degree of bone loss around teeth, vitality of adjacent teeth, and periapical disease. The results showed a significant association between crestal bone loss and the need for root canal treatment. Buccal or lingual crestal bone loss was also significantly associated with a higher rate of periapical disease. Cone-beam computed tomography scans were effective in identifying the severity of bone loss on all surfaces of the teeth.

Summary: The study revealed that the majority of Jordanian dentists prefer using metal ceramic and all-ceramic crowns over endocrowns when restoring root filled teeth. Additionally, fiber posts are the most popular type of posts, and loss of post/core retention or fracture of coronal tooth structure are the two most common reasons observed by dentists when RFT fail. Further training on evidence-based adhesive strategies could improve the longevity of restorations.
