Summary: Label-free, bond-selective imaging has new opportunities in chemistry, biology, and material science. However, issues such as low sensitivity, low spatial and temporal resolution hinder its application in studying spatially-congested specimens. In this paper, a widefield infrared photothermal heterodyne imaging technique (wIR-PHI) is introduced, which overcomes these issues and enables high-resolution imaging with hyperspectral capabilities and high sensitivity. The technique has potential for kinetic imaging and spectroscopic studies in important chemical, biological, and material processes in the future. Rating: 9/10.

Summary: This study demonstrates the optical thermometry of individual gold nanorod trimers, showing how thermal gradients within the trimer can be controlled by exciting its hybridized plasmon modes. Additionally, it reveals the possibility of modifying thermal profiles beyond wide-field illumination by exciting optically dark plasmon modes using focused laser beam illumination. These findings indicate an all-optical thermometry technique that can actively create and measure nanoscale thermal gradients below the diffraction limit.

Summary: The tumor hypoxic microenvironment contributes to drug resistance in non-small cell lung cancer. In this study, researchers developed a hypoxia-triggered nanotheranostic platform for simultaneous hypoxia tumor imaging and oxygen-independent photothermal therapy. The results showed promising anticancer effects in both in vitro and in vivo settings. This research is important for overcoming hypoxia-induced drug resistance and treating other hypoxia-related diseases.
