Summary: The study shows that emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide is non-inferior and even superior in some aspects compared to emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate in preventing HIV infection among adult cisgender men and transgender women at high risk. Additionally, it demonstrates the safety and efficacy of long-term pre-exposure prophylaxis with emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide.

Summary: The study revealed that African American and Latina women experienced substantial and progressive bone loss, deterioration of microarchitecture, and trabecular morphology following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery. This study emphasizes the importance of further research to understand the long-term skeletal consequences of bariatric surgery in this population.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of TMF and TDF in patients with chronic hepatitis B for 48 weeks. Results showed that TMF was non-inferior to TDF in terms of anti-HBV efficacy and demonstrated better bone and renal safety after 48 weeks of treatment.

Summary: This study found that Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-containing PrEP was associated with greater bone loss in the hip compared to maraviroc +/- emtricitabine PrEP, but there was no difference in LS BMD changes. The changes in hip BMD were similar in magnitude for both men and women.

Summary: Data on the durability of TAF-containing antiretroviral therapy in maintaining HBV viral suppression among HIV/HBV-coinfected patients are limited. This study filled the gap by enrolling 274 participants and assessing viral loads and serology markers through 96 weeks. Results showed high rates of viral suppression and improvements in renal parameters, while fasting lipids increased and BMD stabilized at 96 weeks after the switch.

Summary: In this retrospective cohort study, researchers found that patients with chronic hepatitis B treated with TAF had a lower risk of osteoporotic fractures compared to those treated with TDF.

Summary: Low bone mineral density is common in hemophilia patients, influenced by factors such as bone turnover, body mass index, inflammation, treatment regimen, joint status, and HCV infection. Self-reported sportive activity has a positive effect on bone mineral density.

Summary: Type 1 diabetes (T1DM) is associated with an increased risk of nonvertebral fractures, and the influence of glycemic control and microvascular disease on skeletal health in long-standing T1DM is not well understood. This study found that patients with long-standing T1DM had lower bone mineral density (BMD), decreased bone turnover, and weaker bones at the ultradistal tibia compared to non-diabetic controls. The presence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy was found to contribute to the altered cortical microarchitecture and reduced bone strength in T1DM patients.

Summary: The study evaluated the antiviral effects and safety of switching from TDF to TD treatment in patients with chronic hepatitis B. TD was non-inferior to TDF in maintaining viral suppression in CHB patients, with less impact on renal function.

Summary: Switching to E/C/F/TAF maintained viral suppression of both HIV and HBV, improved proteinuria and bone mineral density, but led to increased lipid levels in HIV/HBV-coinfected patients at week 48.

Summary: High-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) is an emerging in vivo imaging modality for quantification of bone microarchitecture. However, the current standard protocol for HR-pQCT image segmentation is laborious and introduces biases into research data. In this study, a fully automated algorithm for HR-pQCT image segmentation was proposed and validated, which significantly improved precision for several outputs.

Summary: This study compared the quantitative distribution of gadolinium retained over time in rodent femur after the administration of gadodiamide and gadobutrol. The results showed that although the gadodiamide group had higher gadolinium concentration, the distribution pattern of gadolinium was similar for both contrast agents. The study also found that gadolinium distribution in bone changed with bone remodeling processes.

Summary: This cross-sectional study aimed to determine whether TBS can identify patients with liver cirrhosis that are at risk of vertebral fractures. The results showed a significant correlation between TBS and vertebral fractures, indicating that TBS can help identify patients at risk of vertebral fractures in liver cirrhosis.
