Summary: Due to its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, sulfur dioxide (SO2) is commonly used in foods and beverages for preservation purposes. However, excessive SO2 intake may have adverse effects on male fertility. This study examined the effects of different concentrations of SO2 in apricot diets on rat testes. The results showed that high levels of SO2 (3500 ppm) in apricot diets led to male fertility problems through mechanisms such as oxidative stress, spermatogenic cell apoptosis, and inhibition of steroidogenesis.

Summary: The study evaluated the antidiabetic effects of CL aqueous extract on STZ-induced diabetic rats and found that CL treatment significantly improved blood glucose levels, lipid profile, pancreatic markers, and liver and kidney function tests. CL treatment also showed dose-dependent reductions in oxidative, apoptotic, and inflammatory pathways, as well as a greater increase in total antioxidant capacity compared to metformin. Additionally, CL treatment provided histologically more improvement in various tissues compared to metformin, suggesting that CL aqueous extract may have stronger short-term anti-diabetic effects than metformin.

Summary: An 18-year-old Salernitano stallion presented with progressive enlargement of the left testicle. Sonographic examination showed deformation and irregular profile of the testis. Unilateral orchiectomy was performed, and a definitive diagnosis of diffuse seminoma was made based on histopathological and immunohistochemical findings. Follow-up assessment showed no recurrence but reduced testosterone levels.

Summary: This study assessed the influence of melatonin (MT) on diabetes-related hepatic injuries and the response of pancreatic beta-cells to MT administration in diabetic rats. The results showed that MT significantly regulated the raised blood glucose, HbA1c, insulin levels, as well as reduced alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) caused by diabetes. Additionally, MT attenuated diabetic degenerative changes in the pancreas and liver, increased beta-cell percentage area, and decreased alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) expression in the liver tissue. It attenuated diabetes-induced hepatic injury by restoring pancreatic beta-cells and reducing hepatocyte injury through its antioxidant effect.

Summary: More than 80% of severely ill rats induced by STZ injections simultaneously exhibited alpha-2u globulin nephropathy with mitochondrial degeneration and impairment of the filtration apparatus, especially the pedicels. Additionally, these rats showed significantly upregulated levels of AQP-1, -2, -4 and-5, HDHD-3, and NDUFS-1 compared to those without alpha-2u globulin nephropathy.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Benzyl Butyl Phthalate (BBP) on the gonads of African catfish, revealing significant exposure-dependent alterations in the histological structure of both male and female reproductive organs. The findings suggest that BBP may impair the normal reproductive function in C. gariepinus.

Summary: Exposure to acrylamide through food can lead to lifelong harm, but Crocin has shown promise in protecting against the toxic damages caused by acrylamide in testicular tissue. Acrylamide negatively influences various blood serum and testis tissue parameters, while Crocin treatment leads to improvements in hormonal levels and antioxidant enzyme levels, as well as histopathological changes.

Summary: This study found that melatonin can alleviate the damage of cadmium on the adult rat testis, including decreased testosterone concentrations, altered sperm parameters, and disruption of the blood-testis barrier and germ cell structure. Melatonin can reduce oxidative damage caused by cadmium, reverse observed changes, and improve sperm quality.

Summary: The acute oral toxicity of onion peel-derived gold nano-bioconjugate (GNBC) was investigated in this study. The findings showed that GNBC had no mortality or abnormal complications in female mice during the 15-day study period. The LD50 was determined to be higher than 2000 mg/kg, and hematological and biochemical analyses demonstrated no significant toxicity in treated animals compared to the control group. The results indicate that GNBC can be safely used for therapeutic applications in vivo.
