Summary: The study found a higher risk of vitamin B-12 deficiency among older adults. Dietary intake of vitamin B-12, especially from dairy sources, was associated with a decreased risk of low vitamin B-12 status and deficiency in older adults. Different food groups may have different contributions to reducing the risk of deficiency in older populations.

Summary: Vitamin D plays an important role in skin inflammation in psoriasis, and UVB phototherapy can increase vitamin D levels. This study aimed to measure free serum 25(OH)D levels in psoriasis patients before and after phototherapy and determine if free 25(OH)D correlates stronger to disease severity than total 25(OH)D. The results showed that both total and free 25(OH)D levels increased after phototherapy and were positively correlated. However, no correlations between disease severity and vitamin D levels were found.

Summary: Evidence suggests that vitamin B-12 may be associated with changes in bacterial abundance. While results from in vitro studies suggest that vitamin B-12 may increase alpha-diversity and shift gut microbiome composition (beta-diversity), findings from animal studies and observational human studies were heterogeneous.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between dietary folate, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 intake and hypertension in US adults. The results showed a negative association between dietary intake of these nutrients and the prevalence of hypertension in both male and female participants. Moreover, there was a linear trend indicating that higher intake of folate, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 was associated with a lower prevalence of hypertension.

Summary: This article proposes a hypothesis that excessive intake of folic acid depletes serum holotranscobalamin, decreasing active vitamin B-12 in the circulation and limiting its availability for tissues. The study provides evidence from observational and intervention studies, and suggests that further research is needed to elucidate the biochemical and physiological mechanisms underlying this interaction.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between maternal B vitamins in early pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk. The results showed that higher maternal serum vitamin B-1 and B-6 levels in early pregnancy were associated with increased GDM risk, while sufficient vitamin B-12 status was associated with lower GDM risk.

Summary: The study found that high plasma folate and high plasma vitamin B-12 levels were positively associated with cognitive function, while vitamin B-12 deficiency was linked to lower cognitive scores. Further research and treatment for vitamin B-12 deficiency should be emphasized to improve cognitive function in this population.

Summary: The study found that offspring from tcn2(-/-) female zebrafish exhibit significant developmental and metabolic defects, indicating a maternal genetic effect that can be rescued with vitamin B-12 supplementation. Transcriptome analysis showed distinct expression profiles in offspring from a tcn2(-/-) female compared to offspring from a tcn2(+/+) female, with dysregulation of visual perception, fatty acid metabolism, and neurotransmitter signaling pathways.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between dietary supplement use, folic acid intake, vitamin B-12 concentrations, and cognitive performance among older adults. The results showed that individuals with poor cognitive performance were less likely to use supplements containing folic acid or vitamin B-12. Those with high folate and normal vitamin B-12 concentrations had a lower risk of poor cognitive performance.

Summary: Vitamin B-12 is a vital biomolecule that plays a role in catalyzing methyl transfer and radical-based reactions in cellular metabolism. It has a unique structure characterized by a tetrapyrrolic corrin ring with a central cobalt ion coordinated with upper and lower ligands. This minireview focuses on the methyl groups that differentiate vitamin B-12 from other biomolecules and its own analogues, called cobamides, discussing their origins, incorporating enzymes, and biological significance.

Summary: Adherence to recommended supplements after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) can reduce the risk of nutrient deficiencies, especially for thiamine, vitamin B-2, vitamin B-6, folate, vitamin B-12, and vitamin D. However, deficiencies may still occur even with supplement adherence.

Summary: The influence of varying Al addition in the form of CAH10 on the hydration of alite was investigated. The results showed that the addition of CAH10 influenced the formation of different hydrate phases and the reaction rate of alite. The consumption and removal of Al in the pore solution initiated a change in the hydration mechanism.

Summary: This study combines high-resolution, non-invasive imaging techniques to analyze age-related skin changes. The results show correlations between clinical manifestations of aging and skin cytoarchitecture observed through imaging. As age advances, certain features such as hyperpigmentation and wrinkles become more pronounced, while the skin's collagen fibers become more disrupted. This research provides valuable insights for future studies on skin aging assessment and treatment effectiveness.

Summary: This article presents the long-term management strategy for advanced BCC patients treated with systemic therapy. Hedgehog inhibitors Sonidegib and Vismodegib are first-line treatments for advanced BCC, but long-term use of hedgehog inhibitors is often challenging due to tolerability issues. However, various strategies for adverse effect management, such as dose interruptions, on-label alternate-day dosing, and supportive medications, are available.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that acne-prone skin exhibits microscopic abnormalities such as microcomedos and infundibular hyperkeratosis. In this study, treatment with probiotics and a topical product led to a reduction in both clinical and microscopic acne features. Reflectance confocal microscopy and dynamic optical coherence tomography were effective tools for monitoring subclinical changes in acne-prone skin.

Summary: JAK inhibitors have shown efficacy in treating immune-related diseases such as ulcerative colitis and atopic dermatitis. This case report demonstrates the successful management of a patient with overlapping conditions of ulcerative colitis and atopic dermatitis using upadacitinib, resulting in complete and persistent clinical remission. These findings suggest that upadacitinib may be an optimal treatment strategy for individuals with coexisting Th1 and Th2-mediated conditions.
