Clinical outcomes of adjunct sinus stenting in dural arteriovenous fistulas Role of flow restoration in steno-occlusion and cortical venous reflux

Yen-Heng Lin, Chung-Wei Lee, Hon-Man Liu

Summary: This study investigated the clinical outcomes and follow-up results of venous sinus stenting (VSS) for constrictive dural sinus restoration in patients with intracranial dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs). The findings suggest that restoration of sinus flow through VSS can provide long-term symptomatic control, but retreatment is often required.

Serum amyloid A predicts poor functional outcome in patients with ischemic stroke receiving endovascular thrombectomy: a case control study

Shin-Joe Yeh, Chih-Hao Chen, Yen-Heng Lin, Li-Kai Tsai, Chung-Wei Lee, Sung-Chun Tang, Jiann-Shing Jeng

Summary: Our findings demonstrate that plasma levels of SAA at an early stage are significant predictors for poor functional outcomes at 3 months in patients with stroke receiving EVT, indicating the substantial role of systemic inflammation in shaping stroke outcomes following EVT.

Posterior Limb of Internal Capsule Infarct Predicts Functional Outcome in Acute Terminal Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion After Thrombectomy

Yen-Heng Lin, Chih-Hao Chen, Sung-Chun Tang, Chung-Wei Lee, Shin-Joe Yeh, Li-Kai Tsai, Jiann-Shing Jeng

Summary: This study investigated the impact of posterior limb of internal capsule (PLIC) infarct on outcomes of acute internal carotid artery (ICA) occlusion after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and the diagnostic accuracy of pretreatment noncontrast computerized tomography (NCCT) and computerized tomography angiography (CTA) findings. The results showed that PLIC infarct is an independent risk factor for worse clinical outcome at 90 days, and the lack of choroid plexus enhancement (CPE) is associated with PLIC infarct. Pretreatment CTA can be useful for early diagnosis.

Prehospital-Stroke-Scale Parameterized Hospital Selection Protocol for Suspected Stroke Patients Considering Door-to-Treatment Durations

Chun-Han Wang, Yu-Chen Chang, Yung Yang, Wen-Chu Chiang, Sung-Chun Tang, Li-Kai Tsai, Chung-Wei Lee, Jiann-Shing Jeng, Matthew Huei-Ming Ma, Ming-Ju Hsieh, Yu-Ching Lee

Summary: This study proposes a hospital selection protocol that takes into account the uncertainty of a prehospital stroke scale and actual door-to-treatment durations. A web-based system has also been developed to implement this protocol. The results show that using this protocol can reduce the time from stroke onset to receiving definitive treatment.

Air-containing necrosis as the imaging predictor for imminent carotid blowout in patients with head and neck cancer

Chao-Ting Chen, Yen-Heng Lin, Ya-Fang Chen, Chung-Wei Lee, Bo-Ching Lee

Summary: This study describes the radiological features that can predict imminent carotid blowout in patients with head and neck cancer. It was found that larger tumors, closer proximity to the carotid trunk, greater involvement of the carotid trunk, more heterogeneous enhancement patterns, and the presence of air-containing necrosis were associated with a higher risk of imminent carotid blowout. The presence of air-containing necrosis was identified as a significant risk factor for imminent carotid blowout.

A Proposed Algorithm for Managing Cerebral Proliferative Angiopathy

Yu-Ning Chen, Chung-Wei Lee, Furen Xiao, Ya-Fang Chen, Tiffany Y. Hu, Meng-Fai Kuo

Summary: Cerebral proliferative angiopathy (CPA) is a rare disease with no standard treatment. Based on a literature review and case presentation, we propose an algorithm for managing CPA and highlight the necessity of multi-modal treatment for most CPA cases.

Original Article Investigating sphingolipids as biomarkers for the outcomes of acute ischemic stroke patients receiving endovascular treatment

Tsung-Heng Lee, Chih-Ning Cheng, Chung-Wei Lee, Ching-Hua Kuo, Sung-Chun Tang, Jiann-Shing Jeng

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between plasma ceramides and sphingosine-1-phosphate levels in acute ischemic stroke patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and their clinical outcomes. The results showed that long-chain ceramides were significantly elevated in AIS patients compared to controls, while the levels of sphingosine-1-phosphate were significantly lower. Additionally, specific types of ceramides could serve as early prognostic indicators for AIS patients undergoing EVT.

Outcome of endovascular thrombectomy in patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing dialysis

Kuo-Wei Chen, Chih-Hao Chen, Yen-Heng Lin, Chung-Wei Lee, Kun-Chang Tsai, Li-Kai Tsai, Sung-Chun Tang, Jiann-Shing Jeng

Summary: This study investigated the outcome of endovascular thrombectomy in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The results showed that ESRD-dialysis patients had more adverse events and worse outcomes. Patients with premorbid functional dependency also had a higher mortality rate.

Association of temporalis muscle thickness with functional outcomes in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy

Yen-Heng Lin, Chi-Ting Chung, Chih-Hao Chen, Chang-Jie Cheng, Hai-Jui Chu, Kuo-Wei Chen, Shin-Joe Yeh, Li-Kai Tsai, Chung-Wei Lee, Sung-Chun Tang, Jiann-Shing Jeng

Summary: This study investigated the association between temporalis muscle thickness (TMT) and clinical outcomes in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for stroke. The results showed that TMT was associated with clinical functional outcomes, and factors such as age, sex, body mass index, and premorbid functional independence were related to TMT size. Larger TMT was an independent predictor of favorable functional independence. The effect of TMT was more pronounced in older patients.

The Extent of Tumor Invasion and Therapeutic Embolization Are Associated with Recurrent Hemorrhage in Patients with External Carotid Artery Blowout Syndrome

Bo-Ching Lee, Yung-Ching Hu, Yen-Heng Lin, Ya-Fang Chen, Chung-Wei Lee

Summary: This study explored the optimal strategies of therapeutic embolization for patients with carotid blowout syndrome in the external carotid artery. The extent of arterial invasion and concordance with therapeutic embolization were found to be associated with a lower risk of recurrent bleeding. Air-containing necrosis around the ICA/CCA was also identified as a risk factor for recurrent bleeding.

Association of Ferroptosis with Severity and Outcomes in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients Undergoing Endovascular Thrombectomy: A Case-control Study

Shin-Joe Yeh, Chih-Hao Chen, Yen-Heng Lin, Li-Kai Tsai, Chung-Wei Lee, Sung-Chun Tang, Jiann-Shing Jeng

Summary: This study found that plasma ferroptosis biomarkers at the hyperacute stage are associated with long-term outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke undergoing EVT. The severity of stroke at admission is correlated with levels of 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) and soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR). Moreover, plasma homocysteine levels are associated with functional outcome and mortality at 3 months post-EVT.
