Summary: The 3D polymeric network structure of chitosan/hyaluronic acid/honey hydrogels, which imitates the extracellular matrix, promotes cell growth and differentiation and exhibits excellent wound-healing abilities. The hydrogels were characterized and their properties, such as water content, water uptake capacities, and porosity, were investigated. The addition of honey altered the interaction between chitosan and hyaluronic acid, resulting in changes in the hydrogel's properties. The honey-containing hydrogels showed decreased porosity and slightly decreased water-uptake capacity, but increased cell adhesion and proliferation. In vivo studies demonstrated that honey addition accelerated wound healing. These findings highlight the potential of honey-loaded chitosan-hyaluronic acid hydrogels in wound healing applications.

Summary: The study demonstrates that 3D printed CH scaffolds have good porosity for colonization and synthetic activity of chondrocytes. Enrichment with hyaluronic acid provides a more stable chondrocyte phenotype. The use of 3D CH scaffolds with PL instead of FBS in the medium results in increased gene expression of relevant ECM components.

Summary: Spontaneously formed hydrogels are highly sought after for their potential applications in injectable or wound dressing materials without additional reactions or toxic crosslinking reagents. This study focuses on the covalent modification of hyaluronic acid (HA) and chitosan (CHI) with catechol groups, and the evaluation of their tissue adhesion and film forming capacity. The results show that the adhesiveness of HA-CA hydrogel increases with gelation, while the competitive reactions of quinone in CHI-CA hydrogel slow down tissue adhesion and impair filmogenic properties.

Summary: There is an urgent need for wound dressings that can promote quick hemostasis and efficient wound healing in response to increasing clinical demands. This study presents a versatile method for constructing biodegradable hybrid cryogels that can rapidly stop bleeding. The cryogel's specific macroporous structure allows for stable fixation and quick swelling, making it ideal for minimally invasive surgery. Furthermore, the cryogel exhibits excellent biocompatibility and activates the endogenous coagulation system, leading to fast blood coagulation. In in vivo evaluations, the cryogel demonstrated great potential in promoting wound healing, reducing immune inflammation, and inducing angiogenesis and hair follicle regeneration. These findings highlight the high-performance capabilities of the cryogel as a wound dressing.

Summary: The study aimed to develop two methods for preparing macroporous composite chitosan/hyaluronic acid (Ch/HA) hydrogels and evaluate their potential as biodegradable matrices for tissue engineering. The hydrogels were prepared by crosslinking chitosan with genipin or glutaraldehyde, and the distribution of hyaluronic acid within the hydrogel was controlled by different modification methods. The results showed that the Ch/HA hydrogels with low molecular weight HA exhibited enhanced cell growth compared to the Ch matrices, and the hydrogels prepared by bulk modification promoted better cell adhesion, growth, and proliferation.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.

The results showed that the multi-layer nanoemulsions significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol compared to free coumarin 6. Furthermore, the use of chitosan and dextran sulfate as wall materials in the multi-layer nanoemulsions led to even higher cellular uptake, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol.
