Renal fibrosis, caused by oxidative stress and inflammation, is a key characteristic of CKD. The activation of Nrf2/HO-1 signal pathway has shown promising results in protecting the kidneys against fibrosis induced by oxidative stress and inflammation. This review summarizes studies on Nrf2/HO-1 and explores potential bioactive compounds that may attenuate renal fibrosis through HO-1 activation.

Summary: Asthma is an inflammatory disease characterized by airway hyperresponsiveness, airway remodeling, and airway inflammation. The development of effective drugs for asthma with high curative effects, low toxicity, and strong specificity is urgently needed. Duloxetine HCl (DUX), a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, has been found to have potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects. This study investigated the effects of DUX on asthma and found that it can relax tracheal smooth muscle and alleviate asthma symptoms through the regulation of ion channels and signaling pathways. DUX has the potential to become a new drug for the relief or treatment of asthma.

Summary: The activation of the inflammasome plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have been shown to alleviate SLE by suppressing inflammasome activation. This study found that the NLRP3 inflammasome was activated in macrophages from SLE patients and mice, and its activation correlated with disease activity. After MSC transplantation, the severity of SLE was reduced, and NLRP3 inflammasome activation was inhibited. These findings suggest that MSC suppress inflammasome activation and provide a potential therapeutic target for SLE.
