Summary: Diffuse brucellar spondylodiscitis is the most severe subtype of osteoarticular brucellosis, presenting a serious and potentially fatal condition that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment. Early identification and management are essential to prevent permanent neurological deficits or death for patients.

Summary: Endoscopic debridement appears to be an effective and safe approach for refractory spondylodiscitis. A novel approach with initial endoscopic infection debulking and antibiotic therapy could improve the success of spondylodiscitis treatment.

Summary: This study proposes a comprehensive classification system for spinal instability based on the Spinal Instability Neoplastic Score (SINS), which aids spine surgeons in choosing optimal treatment for spontaneous spondylodiscitis. The newly developed SISS showed high reliability and validity in detecting unstable spinal lesions in spontaneous spondylodiscitis.

Summary: A predictive model called the Spinal Epidural Abscess Predictive Score was developed using machine learning to assist in clinical decision-making for patients with spinal epidural abscesses. This study identified factors such as active malignancy, spondylodiscitis, organism identification, blood cultures, and sex that contribute to the likelihood of failure of medical management. The model had a high accuracy in predicting the need for surgical intervention, with a probability of failure of medical management reaching 95% for a score of 7 or more.

Summary: Spinal facet joint septic arthritis is a rare pathology associated with pyogenic organisms, presenting with symptoms such as back pain, fever, and positive bacterial blood cultures. Diagnosis relies on MRI imaging, which is unable to differentiate the condition from other inflammatory arthropathies.

Summary: Patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus may be immunocompromised and develop rare inflammatory diseases. A rare case report demonstrated a patient with pyogenic psoas abscess, bacterial meningitis, and spinal epidural abscess, all induced by type 2 diabetes mellitus. Successful treatment with antibiotics over a long period was achieved despite severe bone destruction and the need for prolonged rehabilitation.

Summary: The proposed risk stratification scale for spinal epidural abscess (SEA) was not correlated with risk of clinical failure. However, combined treatment with antibiotics and surgical intervention on initial presentation significantly reduced the rate of clinical failure.

Summary: The experiment conducted on rats suggests that unilateral multifidus injury does not significantly affect the characteristics of surrounding spinal musculature within 28 days post-surgery. Mild facet joint degeneration was present in some animals from all three groups, and the impact of multifidus injury on this degeneration remains inconclusive.

Summary: This case report presented a rare case of a 61-year-old male with retropharyngeal abscess, cervical spinal epidural abscess, and spondylodiscitis. A multidisciplinary approach involving otolaryngologists, neurosurgeons, and infectious disease specialists is essential to prevent complications and delays.

Summary: The aim of this systematic review is to classify the clinical features of immunocompetent children with non-typhoid Salmonella spondylodiscitis and summarize the diagnosis, diagnostic tools, and treatment methods to guide clinicians. The review found that non-typhoid Salmonella spondylodiscitis is rare in healthy immunocompetent children, and identifying the responsible organism is crucial for guiding antibiotic therapy and determining the duration of treatment. However, there is a lack of research articles and case series on this disease.
