Summary: Maternal vitamin D insufficiency during pregnancy may increase the risk of preeclampsia, and lower vitamin D levels at 32 weeks are associated with a higher risk of placenta-mediated complications. Maintaining adequate levels of vitamin D in pregnant women can help prevent the onset of late PMC.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effect and potential mechanism of vitamin D on podocyte injury in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The results showed that treatment with a vitamin D analogue significantly reduced albuminuria and improved renal pathology in diabetic mice. Furthermore, vitamin D enhanced podocyte autophagy activity, restored the expression of slit diaphragm proteins, and inhibited podocyte apoptosis under diabetic conditions.

Summary: The prognostic value of vitamin D receptor (VDR) in various digestive system tumors is still controversial. This meta-analysis found that high VDR expression is generally associated with better overall survival (OS) in digestive system tumors, but the association is not significant in colorectal cancer. VDR expression can serve as a prognostic indicator and a reference for vitamin D supplementation, helping to evaluate prognosis and formulate precise treatment plans for patients with digestive system tumors.

Summary: This study found an association between the CYP24A1 rs2762943 polymorphism and increased risk of multiple sclerosis (MS). Carriers of this risk allele had lower levels of active vitamin D and higher levels of inflammatory factors. However, this genetic variant had no significant impact on disease activity and disability outcomes of MS patients, only with a younger age at disease onset.

Summary: This double-blind RCT investigated the impact of plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) on plasma immune-mediators during pregnancy. The study found that although baseline 25(OH)D was associated with TGF-β, IFN-γ, and IL-2, vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy did not significantly impact immune-mediators in later trimesters.

Summary: This study investigated the power and sample size requirements in vitamin D supplementation randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and found that the increase in 25OHD in the intervention arm and population heterogeneity substantially impact the power of the trials. Sample size determination through simulation was shown to be a powerful approach for non-standard trials and can be easily applied to other intervention-outcome pairs.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the influence of vitamin D on ankylosing spondylitis (AS). The results showed that patients with AS had lower levels of peripheral 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) and higher levels of peripheral C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). This suggests that vitamin D may have a protective effect on AS, and CRP and ESR serve as important biomarkers for AS.

Summary: This study aimed to reveal that VDR gene polymorphisms may constitute a risk factor for necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). The study found that the TT genotype of VDR Fok1 C/T increased the risk of NEC, and there was a significant relationship between this genotype and the risk of NEC.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of 1,25(OH)(2)D deficiency and supplementation on alveolar bone loss and gingival inflammation induced by ligature-induced periodontitis. The results showed that 1,25(OH)(2)D deficiency enhanced the severity of alveolar bone loss and gingival inflammation, while supplementation with 1,25(OH)(2)D-3 alleviated these symptoms, although not completely.

Summary: This study identified the regulatory sites controlling intestine-specific Vdr gene expression using ATAC-Seq technology. The results showed that these sites vary during intestinal development and are associated with intestinal transcription factors. Comparison with DNAse-Seq data from other tissues revealed that these regulatory sites are highly conserved in humans as well.

Summary: In this study, CARM1 was identified as a significant coactivator of 1,25(OH)(2)D-3, mediating the transcription of Cyp24a1 and acting as a repressor of CYP27B1. These findings highlight the key role of CARM1 in the regulation of 1,25(OH)(2)D-3's biological function.

Summary: This study investigates a novel VDR antagonist MeTC7 that selectively inhibits VDR, suppresses the viability of cancer cell-lines, and reduces the growth of neuroblastoma. The research findings contribute to the development of easy-to-synthesize selective VDR antagonists.
