Summary: The prevalence of self-reported peanut allergy among US adults is 2.9%, with over 17% of cases being adult-onset. Adults with childhood-onset PA are more likely to have received a physician diagnosis, have an epinephrine prescription, and use an epinephrine autoinjector compared to those with adult-onset PA.

Summary: Oral tolerance is the absence of response to food allergens, and efforts have been made to induce oral tolerance for the prevention and treatment of food allergy. Early introduction of allergenic foods and allergen-specific immunotherapy have shown promising results in promoting oral tolerance.

Summary: The overlap of clinical symptoms between IBD and IBS complicates the diagnosis and management of post-IBD IBS-D patients. The prevalent theories regarding the pathophysiology of this condition include alterations in mucosal inflammation, the microbiota, mucosal permeability, and gut-brain interactions. Investigation into eosinophilic colopathy and therapy focused on food-derived immune response in patients with post-IBD IBS-D is warranted.

Summary: This study investigates the setting, management, and severity of pediatric food-induced anaphylaxis (FIA) in Canada. Home is the most common location for FIA, while prehospital epinephrine autoinjector (EAI) use is higher in school/daycare settings. The setting is not associated with reaction severity or hospitalization.

Summary: Little is known about the clinical features of food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) in patients with Down syndrome (DS). This study found that FPIES in DS patients is associated with greater severity and earlier onset of symptoms. Cow's milk formula and wheat were the main causative foods. The surgical history of colostomy and postoperative nutrition may contribute to the onset of FPIES. Therefore, the use of amino acid-based formula should be considered for DS children undergoing gastrointestinal surgeries, and FPIES should be considered when acute gastrointestinal disease is suspected in DS children.

Summary: Macadamia nut is a popular choice for a healthy diet, but it is also a potent allergen. Research has identified four IgE-binding proteins in sera from individuals allergic to macadamia nut, with three of them successfully purified and characterized. These newly discovered allergens have the potential to improve molecular diagnostics for macadamia nut allergy.

Summary: The increasing prevalence of food allergies poses a significant challenge to global food health and safety. Fermentation has unique advantages in reducing allergenicity and may represent a new trend in preventing food-induced allergies. It is an efficient approach for reducing or eliminating food allergenicity, while improving the nutritional value and physicochemical properties of food materials. Combination of mixed strain fermentation with additional processing methods can efficiently reduce allergenicity of various foods and preserve their taste and nutritional components, which is significant for patients with allergies.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the occurrence of histologically verified thyroid pathologies in breast cancer survivors. The results showed that some women experienced pathological changes in the thyroid after breast cancer treatment, including both benign and malignant conditions. Therefore, breast cancer survivors should be aware of the risk of thyroid pathologies and undergo regular screening.

Summary: Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is a rare vascular malformation with a wide range of symptoms, including rare involvement of the uterus which can cause severe menorrhagia. Diagnosis is based on physical signs and symptoms, and CT and MRI are the preferred methods for evaluating the extent of the lesion and tissue infiltration. Treatment is generally conservative, but surgery may be considered.

Summary: This narrative review analyzed the correlation between diet and clinical outcomes of familial Mediterranean fever (FMF). Conflicting results were found regarding the association between high-fat and high-salt food intake and FMF attack recurrence. Wheat was suggested to potentially play a role in FMF. A diet rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory supplements may partly reduce symptoms and improve the well-being of FMF patients. However, further studies are needed to clarify the impact of diet on FMF symptom triggering.

Summary: The immune response to COVID-19 is important, but some patients experience persistent symptoms that lead to a global health and economic burden. This study investigates the potential role of IL-6 levels as a marker for long COVID. The analysis of 184 patients admitted to a hospital in Italy revealed that higher IL-6 levels were associated with a doubled risk of long COVID, mobility decline, and PTSD, indicating the significance of IL-6 in disease severity, unfavorable outcomes, and long COVID development.

Summary: Inflammatory/allergic conditions should be considered in self-reported milk intolerance patients who test negative and/or are asymptomatic at Lactose Hydrogen Breath Test. Fecal calprotectin values were analyzed in these patients and suggest the existence of an allergic/inflammatory pathogenetic mechanism in a subset of self-reported milk intolerance subjects. Fecal calprotectin results are in keeping with this hypothesis, but cannot differentiate lactose tolerant from intolerant patients.

The laparoscopic approach appears to have better postoperative outcomes, but is criticized for the risk of abdominal spillage and longer operative times. In this case, a laparoscopic and endoscopic cooperative surgery was performed to overcome the limitations of a single technique.
