Summary: A retrospective cohort study compared the use of vaginal and buccal misoprostol for medication abortion after oral mifepristone. The study found that buccal administration had a higher proportion of complete abortion before 64 days of gestation, while vaginal misoprostol was effective up to 70 days of gestation. Expanding medication abortion options can empower patients, especially in the face of increasing restrictions and bans on abortion.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a single dose of 30 mg letrozole prior to medication abortion. Participants received letrozole in-clinic and misoprostol at home. Out of the 39 participants with follow-up, 74% had a complete abortion, 10% opted for aspiration, and 15% had an ongoing pregnancy. These results suggest that letrozole as an adjunct to misoprostol for medication abortion is not effective.

Summary: This study assessed the effectiveness of a low-sensitivity pregnancy test in identifying ongoing pregnancy after medication abortion at 64 to 70 days of gestation. The results showed that the low-sensitivity pregnancy test had high sensitivity and negative predictive value for detecting ongoing pregnancy.

Summary: The study examined serum hCG decline following complete aspiration abortion in early gestation. Results showed that hCG levels declined rapidly within three days postprocedure, with over 50% decline observed on the first day. This trend is consistent with medication abortion and suggests a rapid decrease in hCG levels following aspiration abortion in very early gestations.

Summary: Results of the study indicate that prophylactic tramadol or ibuprofen/metoclopramide can reduce pain during mifepristone-misoprostol medical abortion, but the effects were not clinically significant. Women who received ibuprofen/metoclopramide were least likely to require additional analgesia and reported fewer side effects.

Summary: This study compared the administration of oxycodone through intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IVPCA) and on-demand administration in late first and second-trimester medically induced abortions. The results showed that women often experience severe pain during medical abortion regardless of the mode of opiate administration. The use of IVPCA allowed women to self-administer analgesics, which increased the likelihood of experiencing mild or tolerable pain during abortion care. Overall, satisfaction with care was high.

Summary: The study results show an increase in the rate of complete abortions and a decrease in surgical interventions for telemedical abortion in the last 10 years. Despite the limitation of low follow-up rates, it is evident that this method is highly acceptable worldwide.

Summary: This study reviewed the success and complications of tumor embolizations using the meningohypophyseal and inferolateral trunks. Among 14 patients, on average, 79% of tumors were successfully embolized without any mortality or morbidity. The average estimated blood loss was 395 mL, none of the patients required a transfusion, and the average operative time was 7.3 hours.

Summary: This study reported the incidence and causes of pregnancy loss after Day 70 of gestation in Thoroughbreds, with a total of 3,586 pregnancies collected from 1,802 mares. The incidence rates of abortion and stillbirth were 4.0%, 0.3% and 1.4%, with umbilical cord-related pathologies being the most commonly diagnosed cause.

Summary: This study compared the 30-day postoperative complication rates between outpatient and inpatient simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty (si-BTKA). The results showed that outpatient si-BTKA had significantly lower odds of any complication, minor complication, and postoperative transfusion compared to inpatient cases.

Summary: The study in Ethiopia compared the safety and effectiveness of dilation and evacuation for surgical abortion versus medical abortion between 13-20 weeks' gestational age. It found no significant difference in the composite complication rate between the two methods, indicating that surgical abortion can be a safe and effective alternative to medical abortion. However, medical abortion patients may require additional interventions compared to surgical abortion patients.

Summary: This study validates a scale for assessing the perceived quality of at-home medical abortion. Medical abortion is efficient and effective, eliminating the need for hospital care, anesthesia, and surgical risk. However, user satisfaction has not been determined. This study offers a validated scale to assess the quality experience of abortion as a fundamental part of overall service quality.
